অচিরেই মহাকাশে কাঠের তৈরি কৃত্রিম উপগ্রহ পাঠাতে চলেছে জাপান। ২০২৩ সালের মধ্যেই উপগ্রহটি তৈরির লক্ষ্য নির্ধারণ করেছেন দেশটির গবেষকরা।
উপগ্রহটি উদ্ভাবনে সফল হলে এটাই হবে বিশ্বের প্রথম কাঠ নির্মিত উপগ্রহ। জাপানের কিয়োটা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় ও জাপানের ফরেস্ট্রির একদল গবেষক এ কাজে নিয়োজিত রয়েছেন। দিনে দিনে মহাকাশে ব্যাপকভাবে আবর্জনা বাড়ছে। মেয়াদ ফুরিয়ে যাওয়া অনেক কৃত্রিম উপগ্রহরেই যন্ত্রাংশ এই আবর্জনার পর্যায়ে পড়ে। সেক্ষেত্রে সমাধান হতে পারে কাঠের তৈরী কৃত্রিম উপগ্রহ। কারণ বায়ুমণ্ডলের সঙ্গে ঘর্ষণে কাঠ পুড়ে কোনো ক্ষতিকর উপাদান মহাকাশে ছড়িয়ে পড়বেনা ভেবেই এমন উপগ্রহ বানানোর সিদ্ধান্ত নিয়েছে জাপান।
