東映アニメが送る「佐世保×サイバーパンク」の壮麗な実験映像
Cyberpunk short film set in Sasebo, a real city in Japan, produced by Toei Animation
『URVAN』（ウルヴァン）は、東映アニメーションの新規 IP（※1）研究開発チームである「PEROs」（※2）が、長崎国際大学の協力のもとで製作した、佐世保市を舞台にした約5分間の実験映像＝パイロットフィルムです。
リモートでのロケハンや最新のコミュニケーションツールを活用することで、舞台となった佐世保に一度も行くことなく、地域の新たな魅力を創造する、コロナ禍におけるアニメ製作に挑戦した作品です。

【『URVAN』とは】
「URVAN」とは、「お盆」すなわち「盂蘭盆会（うらぼんえ）」の語源といわれる、紀元前７世紀頃の古代アヴェスター語「ウルヴァン（霊魂）」を指します。
本作品『URVAN』は、長崎県佐世保市を舞台に、霊を迎え入れ、そして送り出すお盆をモチーフに、「非日常」と「日常」が交錯する、神秘的でどこかなつかしい、サイバーパンクアクションです。
アニメーションとして表現された佐世保の実在の風景が、サイバーパンクの世界へと変化し、その不思議な街を謎の男女2人が駆け抜けます。
さらに、全編を通じて、佐世保を代表する特産品の数々も映像を彩り、「尖った」「映える」形で地元の方でも新鮮にお楽しみいただけるよう表現しました。是非ご覧ください。

【舞台となる佐世保とは】
佐世保市は、人口24.3万人を擁する長崎県北部の中心都市です。
大小208の島々が織りなす美しい景観の西海国立公園「九十九島」などの豊かな自然、旧海軍の軍港として栄えた歴史、そして現在は米海軍基地を有する、国際色豊かな港街です。
『URVAN』では、旧海軍が建設したコンクリート製の三本の塔が正三角形に配置された「針尾無線塔」、大村湾と佐世保湾を繋ぐ河川状の狭い水道がある「早岐瀬戸（はいきのせと）」、四ヶ町から三ヶ町にかけて７つの町をまたぐ全長約１キロのアーケードで一直線のアーケードとしては日本一の「さるくシティ４〇３アーケード」、巨大な穴が自然にくり抜かれて眼鏡状になった奇岩「眼鏡岩（めがねいわ）」、九十九島の海を再現した地域密着型の水族館である、九十九島水族館海きらら、絶景・九十九島をクルージングする九十九島海賊遊覧船みらい等、九十九島の魅力を満喫できる「九十九島パールシーリゾート」、日本本土最西端の地「神崎鼻（こうざきばな）」などが登場します。

[What is “URVAN”?]
“URVAN” refers to the ancient Avestan word “Ulvane” around the 7th century BC, which is said to be the etymology of “Obon”, that is, “Urabone”.
This work “URVAN” is a mysterious and somewhat nostalgic cyberpunk action that mixes “unusual” and “everyday” with the motif of Obon, which welcomes and sends out spirits in Sasebo City, Nagasaki Prefecture.
The real scenery of Sasebo expressed as an animation changes into the world of cyberpunk, and mysterious man and woman run through the mysterious city.
In addition, throughout the entire story, a number of Sasebo’s representative special products are also colored in the video, expressing them in a “pointed” and “shining” form so that even locals can enjoy them freshly. Please take a look.

[What is Sasebo, the stage]
Sasebo City is the central city of northern Nagasaki Prefecture with a population of 243,000.
It is an international port city with abundant nature such as the beautiful scenery of Saikai National Park “Kujukushima” woven by 208 large and small islands, a history that prospered as a military port of the former Navy, and now a US naval base.
