[ワシントン １０日 ロイター] – 米国土安全保障省は１０日、移民・税関捜査局（ＩＣＥ）がネブラスカ州オマハの食肉工場を捜索したと発表、トランプ政権下で行われた職場への強制捜査としては同州最大規模になったと述べた。
ドン・ベーコン連邦下院議員が地元メディアに明らかにしたところによると、７５─８０人が拘束された。
捜索されたのは食肉加工会社グレン・バレー・フーズの工場。同社は移民の就労資格について規則を順守しており、今回の摘発に驚いていると表明した。
同社のチャド・ハートマン社長はロイターに対し、工場では移民の就労資格を確認するため、連邦政府のデータベース「Ｅ－Ｖｅｒｉｆｙ」を使っていたと主張。捜査員にその旨を伝えたところ「システムが壊れていた」と告げられ、地元の下院議員に連絡するよう指示されたという。
同社長によると、ＩＣＥは偽証書類を所持していた１０７人を特定し、令状を取得した。
トランプ大統領は「不法移民の史上最大の強制送還作戦」を公約に掲げており、関係筋によると、政権はＩＣＥに対し拘束する移民の数を大幅に増やすよう要求している。
移民団体によると、ＩＣＥはカリフォルニア州ロサンゼルスでもホームセンター大手ホーム・デポの店舗のほか、衣料品工場や倉庫で移民を拘束。現地では週末に抗議活動が拡大した。
シンクタンクの米経済政策研究センター（ＣＥＰＲ）によると、米国の食肉加工工場で働く労働者の半数以上は移民。人権団体は今回の捜索を非難している。
