Chinese is a very beautiful and difficult language to translate with the same …flavors…
and I certainly do not claim that my translations are exactly what the composer has intended…
I have based my translations on my understanding of the story:
**SPOILER**
In these 13 years gone by, Lan Wang Ji has tirelessly tried to find out what exactly happened to Wwx, by chasing down any clues and inquiring spirits for any insight to the events he was not witness to. His biggest regret in life must have been how he was not there for wwx when he died.
As the years passed, Lan Wang Ji finds that his memories of Wei Ying have become fleeting like dreams…so he tries to maintain their connection by reminiscing the past, drinking the liquor that wwx loved, and hopes to see Wei Ying’s face again in his dreams so that he won’t forget him when he wakes…
A running gag in the novel is wwx asking lwj how did he recognize him immediately when he met him on the mountain that night. Wwx’s genius must have also applied to musical talent as well, because he remembered a song Lwj played for him after hearing it ONCE, while he was in a daze.
And even though years passed after he heard it, not to mention the gap of nothingness while he was dead, on the same night he was brought back, that was what he remembered…
