映画はハリーが学んだホグワーツ魔法学校の教科書「幻の動物とその生息地」を編集した魔法動物学者ニュートが、世界中を旅する中で発見した魔法動物を詰め込んだトランクが開いてしまい、魔法動物たちが逃げ出して、世界が大パニックに陥る……という物語。
