Even though it has only been around 7 months, it feels like an eternity has passed since GFriend’s last comeback with Fever Season! Because of that, I couldn’t wait for their newest mini-album, 回:Labyrinth, to drop on February 3rd, 2020, especially since it marked their first release after Big Hit’s acquisition of Source Music. In fact, the tracklist teaser revealed that “Hitman” Bang himself participated in the writing two of the tracks: Labyrinth and From Me. Would this change in management cause a shift in music and signature sound?
After the EP came out, it was clear that the hard-hitting and innocent concept that GFriend is known for was here to stay. However, Labyrinth was definitely a stand-out track for me, drawing me in immediately with its powerful instrumentation and guitar parts. After several more listens, I noticed that Labyrinth’s interesting style is similar to AKB48’s No Way Man, another song with an impactful melody, intense drums, and energetic synths. I wondered, what would they sound like together? Well, here is the result of that idea! I hope you enjoy the mashup.
