[ワシントン １８日 ロイター] – 米政府当局者を含む複数の関係者によると、米軍が対イラン作戦における今後の展開に備える中、トランプ政権は中東での作戦を強化するため、数千人の米軍部隊派遣を検討しているという。
イランとの戦争が３週目に突入する中、今回の動きは作戦拡大を検討するトランプ氏にさらなる選択肢を提供する可能性がある。
これらの選択肢にはホルムズ海峡を通過する石油タンカーの安全な航行を確保することが含まれており、主に空軍と海軍によって行われる見通しだ。しかし、海峡の安全確保は、イラン沿岸への米軍部隊の展開を意味する可能性もあるという。
トランプ政権はまた、イラン産原油の主要輸出拠点であるカーグ島への地上部隊派遣についても検討しているという。当局者の１人は、そのような作戦は非常に危険だと指摘した。イランには、ミサイルやドローン（無人機）で同島を攻撃する能力がある。
