［ワシントン １０日 ロイター］ – 米軍の制服組トップのダン・ケイン統合参謀本部議長は１０日、米国がこれまでで最も激しい対イラン攻撃に向けて準備を進める中、イランは戦闘を続けているものの、米国が当初想定していたほど手強い存在ではないとの見方を示した。
ケイン氏は国防総省で行われた記者会見で、米軍はイランの機雷敷設船を標的とした攻撃を実施しており、ホルムズ海峡を通航する船舶の護衛を任された場合、国防総省が幅広い選択肢を検討すると言及。「イランは戦っており、その点は尊重するが、当初想定していたほど手強いとは思わない」と語った。
ヘグセス国防長官は記者会見で、米国は１０日にイランに対する攻撃でこれまでで最も激しい作戦を実施すると表明。これまでで最も多くの戦闘機と爆撃機が投入されると述べた。同時に、「終わりのない戦い」にはならないと改めて強調し、米軍の作戦終了の判断はトランプ大統領が下すと語った。
ケイン氏によると、米軍は作戦開始から最初の１０日間で５０隻以上の海軍艦艇を含む５０００以上の標的を攻撃した。
