[１日 ロイター] – 複数の米高官は、最高指導者ハメネイ師の殺害に至ったイランに対する米国とイスラエルの軍事作戦が近い将来のイラン体制転換につながるかどうか懐疑的な見方を維持している。
３人の米当局者は、弱体化しているイランの反体制派が１９７９年以来続いている神権的、権威主義的な統治体制を打倒できるかどうかについては深刻な懐疑論があるとしている。
ロイターが取材した当局者は誰も、イラン体制崩壊の可能性を完全には否定しなかったものの、近い将来にそれが起こり得る可能性はかなり低いと述べた。
ホワイトハウスの内部事情に詳しい米当局者は、イスラム革命防衛隊（ＩＲＧＣ）の幹部が自発的に降伏する可能性は低いと述べた。その理由の一つとして、忠誠心を維持するために構築された広範な利益供与ネットワークの恩恵を受けている点を挙げた。
トランプ米大統領自身も１日、イランとの対話再開を計画していると発言しており、少なくとも当面の間、米国はイラン体制が存続すると見ていることを示唆している。
