[１９日 ロイター] – 米軍は１９日、シリアにある過激派組織「イスラム国」（ＩＳ）の数十カ所の拠点に対し、大規模な空爆を実施した。シリア中部で先週、米兵士ら３人が殺害されたことへの報復。
トランプ米大統領は米兵士らが襲撃され死亡したことを受け、「極めて厳しい報復」を行うと予告していた。
ヘグセス米国防長官は「ＩＳの戦闘員やインフラ、武器拠点」を標的に空爆を行ったと表明。戦争の始まりではなく報復宣言だとし、「われわれは今日多くの敵を探知し殺した。そしてこれからもそうするだろう」と述べた。
トランプ大統領は交流サイト（ＳＮＳ）への投稿で、シリア政府は今回の空爆を全面的に支持していると述べ、米国による「非常に重大な報復」と強調した。
