［ワシントン １９日 ロイター］ – 米当局者や防衛専門家は１９日、米国がサウジアラビアに売却を計画しているＦ３５戦闘機について、中東におけるイスラエルの軍事的優位性を保証する米国法に従い、イスラエルが運用するＦ３５より先進性の面で劣るものになるとの見方を示した。
当局者らによると、サウジに売却されるＦ３５は高度な兵器システムや電子戦装備など、イスラエル保有機が持つ優れた機能を備えない見通しだ。
イスラエルは自国の兵器システムの統合やレーダー妨害機能の追加などＦ３５の改修を認める異例の許可も得ている。イスラエル紙によると、同国空軍はそれでもサウジへの売却計画に反対し、中東の空域におけるイスラエルの優位性が損なわれると警告した。
サウジアラビアへの武器売却は通常、議会の承認が必要だ。ある当局者は、米議会におけるイスラエルの強い影響力が承認を妨げる可能性があると示唆した。
