so l the patriots have received word of one positive covet 19 test and they are awaiting confirmation of a possible second positive test they were supposed to be on the practice field at one o’clock eastern time they’ve called off the practice as well as player interviews that were scheduled after the practice they had been out on the practice field yesterday for the first time this week and they had felt good about that because cam newton stefan gilmore were back on the practice field for the first time after having officially come off the covet 19 reserve list yeah and this is this is interesting because they had just opened their facilities we heard bill belichick talk about the fact he was preparing for a game when he’s had to conduct mostly virtual meetings to this point so now we are getting word that there is potential for one positive covenant 19 test and another as well you’re waiting on confirmation for exactly who that is and i know mike you’re going to stay on the land as soon as you get that information you’ll bring it in but there’s also a potential issue here as we take a look at the patriots schedule because they had to have some flexibility they had their bye week as did the broncos because of those positive coveted tests within the organization and now that flexibility is gone of course these teams were supposed to play in week five it was pushed to this weekend they’ve got another home game with the niners scheduled for october 25th so again there is zero flexibility matt when it comes to trying to reschedule some of these games i want to bring back marcus spears with this latest news and spears look l just detailed the schedule we were just talking to you about this a minute ago and at least for the first couple of weeks the nfl was doing everything right by the protocols that they put in place i want to know from you would it be out of the realm of possibility perhaps for the nfl to just pause get everything together and perhaps back the schedule up a little more i believe so matt and listen anything can be done right when we have the conversation about staying fluid and making sure that things are progressing along for you in order to get this season done but when you think about where the league started in this offseason with no off season you think about no preseason games you think about playing the games that they played already particularly and then taking a pause and starting again now you’re talking about calendars changing the nfl has other business as well throughout the year i want a season to be completed as bad as anyone because i thought once they started it they would just make the evolving changes that we knew were inevitable to happen but now this is the second time for the patriots right it’s unavoidable is what i want people to understand like these teams aren’t necessarily doing anything wrong these teams aren’t being being irresponsible this is what we’re dealing with in the world right now especially in this country and the nfl is not immune to that what we wanted to see i think everybody before this season started was not only could they complete it but how would they handle this particular situation and now you double up to elle’s point just talking to mike reese the question you just had now you double up with a team and we were talking about it earlier like you mentioned how do you complete it if the new england patriots don’t play they continue to have positive tests this will be the second time that they’ve had to move a game or not complete one and move it to later on and now you’re talking about week 18 19 20 and the pause is not going to happen because other teams won’t deal with this matt other teams won’t have these problems possibly and what are you going to tell them is it fair to go forward with the teams that aren’t dealing with these cases or you deal with the teams that are having them and you just say look guys y’all have to pause or y’all have to be done with this season there is no right answer basically and when you start talking about pausing and starting over again the teams that don’t have these issues are going to have a huge problem with it yeah and look and i and i get that but you’re talking about the titans the falcons the colts we’ve seen the patriots now we’re watching tuesday night football which i think we all agree is kind of entertaining but at some point and and again the nfl hasn’t done anything wrong but i want to be clear about this at some point the nfl needs to get over itself and understand that we’re dealing with a hundred year pandemic and flexibility to move your calendar like all of us have in our lives this year needs to start becoming a realistic conversation matt you are not wrong brother you not you are not wrong at all the conversation is about even having a season if the conversation is about not having a preseason and doing everything virtually is leading up to this we saw the nba right nba bubble we’ve we’ve thrown the idea of these teams bubbling in their own particular cities and deciding a number of cities that they can play in it’s potentially safer to do so we’ve seen every scenario we’ve heard every scenario play out until your point the nfl since day one has said we are going to trudge along we are going to deal with the issues that come and we will handle them as they come but once you have this pandemic this this covet run through the league and once you have multiple teams like we’ve seen and once you have repeat teams like we’ve seen and we’re just talking about six right now what if it starts to hit throughout all 32 how do you make the plan so i don’t think a pause is would be the answer i think hey we got to shut this season down we pick up with nfl calendar as far as the draft and trying to get a combine done and things like that which i think would be what they would have to do if this hits every team you and i having this discussion the thoughts that’s going through my head the thoughts that’s going through your head the the the things that we’re suggesting could potentially happen is the dilemma that the nfl is dealing with right now and i think we’ve had this conversation two or three minutes and we still don’t have a damn solution yeah and i’ll say this we’re seeing it at the nfl for the first time this season we saw it with the sec you’ve got lsu florida nick saban all of this permeating throughout football thanks for watching espn on youtube for live streaming sports and premium content subscribe to espn plus
