[ワシントン ４日 ロイター] – トランプ米大統領は４日、実業家イーロン・マスク氏の盟友で民間宇宙飛行士のジャレッド・アイザックマン氏を航空宇宙局（ＮＡＳＡ）長官候補に再び指名すると発表した。
アイザックマン氏は今年、トランプ氏とマスク氏の対立が注目される中、候補指名が取り下げられた経緯がある。
トランプ氏はソーシャルメディアに「熟練したビジネスリーダー、慈善家、パイロット、宇宙飛行士であるジャレッド・アイザックマンをＮＡＳＡ長官に指名することをうれしく思う」と投稿した。
また「ジャレッドの宇宙への情熱、宇宙飛行士の経験、そして探査の限界を押し広げ、宇宙の謎を解き明かし、新しい宇宙経済を発展させようとするひたむきさはＮＡＳＡを大胆な新時代へと導く理想的な適任者だ」と述べた。
就任には上院での承認が必要となる。
