Been a minute, eh? There are a couple of stalled MADs on the hard drive that may or may not ever see the light of day, but I guess this one is officially my second full-length MAD. While the writing could have left some elements back in the ’90s where they belong, this remake of Yaiba was truly something special on the animation front. Character Designer/Chief Animation Director Yoshimichi Kameda, Series Director Takahiro Hasui, and the whole team at Wit Studio assembled one of the largest congregations of Kanada-style animators the industry has maybe ever seen, and their efforts were awe-inspiring. I can’t wait for season 2.
A big special thanks to Zinou for the incredible feedback and help (RIP rSakuga). A shout-out is also in order for both Somon and Oratsu. It’s thanks to their efforts that ~80% of Yaiba’s booru posts are fully credited, and we can attach names to these animators’ brilliant work.
