コロナ禍での学校閉鎖の原因は何ですか?

You’re not an antivaxer. You would affirm that the vaccines lowered the mortality rate very significantly. You mainly are focusing on what you call non-farmaceutical interventions. Right. Absolutely. Everything except drugs and vaccines, border closures, contact tracing, school closures, quarantines, masking. There just is an absence of data to vindicate the effectiveness of these non-farmaceutical measures. So I would say certainly by the summer of 2020, we knew enough that schools could be safely reopened, which they did generally in Europe in the fall of 220 and they did often in Republican states. The drivers of the school closures, the length of the school closures was not virolence of the virus, but rather the strength of teachers unions and the percentage Democratic vote for president. We focused on the speculative hoped for benefits of these measures, but never adequately weighed the costs.

Political scientist Steve Macedo joins Robert Wright to look back at Covid policies — and why schools stayed closed long after evidence suggested reopening was safe. If closures weren’t driven by the virus itself, what did drive them?
