An epidemic will come, Metropolitan Augustine. We are in danger as individuals. We are in danger from an epidemic. An epidemic will come. Oh, oh, oh. It is coming, coming, coming, coming. An epidemic. Not the flu, like that little flu that puts someone to bed and goes away. But according to revelation, an epidemic with a terrible name will come, which will disgrace doctors, disgrace pharmacies, devalue everything. An electric broom. What can God do to us if we do not pray, if we do not read the Holy Scriptures? Fornication, adultery, divorce, uncleanliness, abomination. This is what fills the world. And now an epidemic is coming, which will sweep away the whole world, like an electric broom. And as in the days of the First World War, that flu came that ate all of Athens, and thousands of people died. So now a terrible epidemic is coming from the East. It is coming. Therefore, my brothers and friends, at least a little on your knees to the chair, to prayer. Dear brothers and sisters, these terrible prophecies belong to Metropolitan Augustine Kantiotis, and we will talk about this in our video. Peace be with you, dear brothers and sisters in Christ. Today we will touch on a painful but vital topic. The words of the Savior from the Gospel sound especially acute in our days: “O faithless and perverse generation, I will surely be with you, I will surely tolerate you.” We will talk about the sermons of the great saint Metropolitan Augustine Kantiotis from 1907 to 2010, whom the Venerable Poisius the Holy Mountain called the golden-mouthed of the last times. This fiery preacher, prophet and fighter for the purity of the Orthodox faith lived 103 years and left us a spiritual heritage that amazes with its insight. Bishop Augustine predicted the coronavirus pandemic, the Chernobyl disaster, the abolition of Sunday and many other events. But most importantly, he fearlessly denounced the spiritual degradation of the modern world. Let’s take an honest look at what is happening around us. We live in an era of new idolatry. Only instead of the Golden Calf, people worship money, fame, pleasure, flesh. The material has become God, and the spiritual has been pushed into the background . Let’s listen to the wise words of a luminary of our time, Metropolitan Augustine Kantiotis, who with prophetic power denounced the sins of the modern world. Bishop Augustine said: “Look at the streets of our cities. I now see not one, but many thousands of spiritually ill people who fall down every day and spew forth foam of a different kind. Our contemporaries spew forth foam of a much worse quality. They have become like mad dogs. These are also possessed. These are the ones who swear. They have gone completely mad, wherever they are. They open their stinking mouths and spew forth all kinds of filth. They go so far as to blaspheme Christ, the Mother of God, and everything divine. If you reprimand them,” the saint continues, “they say: “I speak this way out of habit. How many times have I heard this excuse. Are you speaking this way only out of habit? No, I disagree. They swear not out of habit, but out of unbelief. What a profound truth. If they had any faith in God, that he exists, that he created the universe, that he is our provider and preserver, who gives us everything, they would not curse him, but would say: “Thank you.” Well, what about us, the Orthodox? Metropolitan Augustine asks a sharp question. We are representatives of the clergy. 80 bishops, 8,000 priests and 3,000 theologians. We have all heard these curses. And what do we do? Perhaps we organize a crusade or start a holy revolution that will cleanse the people of this evil. Nothing of the sort happens. Why? The answer is given by Christ himself: “Because of your unbelief. If we cannot cope with this evil, the reason lies in our own lack of faith. And so, dear brothers and sisters, I want to touch on this topic, the wonderful sermon of Metropolitan Augustine Cantiodis, who warns us all what can happen to us if we do not stop spewing out our filth. Today, at the Liturgy, My beloved, you heard the sacred and holy Gospel. I want to ask not about what you heard with your ears, but about how these words resonated in the depths of your soul. If we truly heard the Gospel, we would live like angels. His words are the words of the one who never made a mistake, our Lord Jesus Christ, written in his blood. Let us listen to them. Today, the words of Christ seem somewhat unusual to us. We know that Christ was meek, full of love, but here his speech is like thunder and lightning. And you think that you are not sinful and you are not afraid, but I am very sinful and I am afraid of these words. O faithless and perverse generation, how long will I be with you, how long will I tolerate you. So says Christ himself. Let us consider these words, make their interpretation. Will we find hearts that will feel them? Some may object that these words of Christ were addressed not to Christians, but to Jews. Christ really spoke this way about them. And this happened after a father with a possessed son turned to him. The child’s attacks were terrible. He threw himself into fire or lion water. Foam came out of his mouth. The father’s heart was breaking with pain at the sight of his son’s suffering. After all, no doctor, no medicine could bring him healing. In search of help, the father brought his child to the disciples of Christ, but they were unable to free him from his illness. Then the father began to wait for Christ, who was on the mountain. When the Savior descended, the father fell on his knees and cried out to him with a plea for help. But what came from his lips? Another evangelist, narrating the same event, conveys the words of the father addressed to Christ: “If you can do anything, Lord, then help us. If you can do anything.” What a bitter delusion is hidden in these words: “Unhappy one.” Your words speak of unbelief. Christ, having heard such a statement from his father and faced with the unbelief and moral decline of the Jewish people, opened his almighty lips and uttered threatening words condemning the Jews, who, despite numerous miracles, remained unbelievers. O faithless and perverse generation, how long will I be with you, how long will I tolerate you. Yes, he said about the Jews, but I think, and in my opinion, this is not far from the truth, that this reproach of Christ applies to you and me. Yes, brothers and sisters, we are like that too. And both of these characteristics suit us. And to our homeland and our people the Lord can rightly say: “O faithless and perverse generation! We are an faithless generation.” Do you doubt it? Listen to what is said in the street. In the Gospel we read that the young man foamed at the mouth, but now I see not one, but many, thousands of spiritually ill people who fall down every day and spew out foam of a different kind. The foam that this boy emitted was the result of his illness, but not his soul. Our contemporaries will curse foam of a much worse quality. They have become like mad dogs. “But who are these possessed?” you ask. “You know them very well. They are right next to you. They are the ones who swear. They have gone completely mad. Wherever they are, they open their stinking mouths and spew out all kinds of filth. They even go so far as to cherish Christ, the Virgin Mary, and everything divine. If you rebuke them, they say, “I speak like this out of habit. How many times have I heard this excuse. You speak like this only out of habit. No, I disagree. They swear not out of habit, but out of unbelief.” If they believed even a little in God, that he exists, that he created the Universe, that he is our provider and preserver, who gives us everything, they would not curse him. But they would say thank you. They enjoy water, bread and all earthly blessings, but at the same time they blaspheme. They swear not out of habit, as they say about unbelief in God. And what about those who do not swear? Those who attend church services, take communion, consider themselves church people. This is us, representatives of the clergy. 80 bishops, 8,000 priests and 3,000 theologians. We have all heard this swearing. And what do we do? Maybe we organize a crusade or start a holy revolution that will cleanse the people of this evil. Nothing like that happens. Why? Why have we all failed to eradicate this ugly phenomenon? The answer is found in today’s Gospel. When the disciples asked Christ why we could not cast out the demon, Christ answered them: “Because of your unbelief. If you believed, you would have cast him out.” And in the same way, if we cannot cope with this evil, the reason lies in our own lack of faith. It turns out that both those who swear and those who calmly listen to them belong to the infidel generation. But is it only to this that we have already sunk to the point that we can rightfully be called a depraved generation? Do we really need proof for this? Do I have to provide official documents from the courts and the police to clearly demonstrate the level our moral decline with the help of statistics? The state of affairs is simply appalling. In the old days, if a woman destroyed someone’s family and took their husband away, no one would let her in. The late Queen Sofia never received such people, because it is better to destroy a temple than to separate a husband from his wife. And what is happening now? Such ladies, in quotes, are welcome guests everywhere: in salons, in offices, and at events. In the old days, spouses loved each other. Divorce was unknown. They lived in harmony, like Saints Adrian and Natalia, who died on the same day, suffering for Christ. Their memory is honored on the same day, as evidence of their inseparable connection in all life’s trials, in joy, in pain, even in torment. All this was commonplace. And now, according to statistics, in this decaying society, in this huge pit of vice, tens of thousands of women officially and unofficially sell their bodies. We have passed through Babylon and turned into Sodom Gomorrah. And you dare to claim that the words of Christ about the faithful and corrupted homeland do not concern us. If he pronounced them in the address of the Jews, then, seeing our current unbelief and debauchery, our adultery, fornication, despite the fact that we live in a Christian country, where every fifth of the land is sanctified, he would undoubtedly repeat these words: “From the unfaithful and corrupt, how long will I be with you, how long will I tolerate you.” Someone will ask: “Doesn’t God see and hear all this? Can’t he stop it? Why doesn’t he intervene? The holy books cry out to us in response: He is long-suffering. Glory to your long-suffering, Lord. What does long-suffering mean? As the Church Fathers say, long-suffering is like a large ladle into which drop after drop is poured every day, pouring in one, pouring in another. And if this continues, then the ladle will one day be full, and when it overflows, the water will gush over the edge. In the meantime, all of us, small and great, are testing God’s long-suffering with our sins. The hour will come, and has already come, when the measure of God’s long-suffering will overflow, and then woe to the world, God’s long-suffering will be exhausted, and God will show us his righteous judgment. Already now we are seeing harbingers of things to come. In one of the Italian cities, numbering million inhabitants, a dramatic incident occurred. While American and French women were enjoying their time on the beach, laughing and changing clothes with entertainment, and the casinos were crowded with visitors of all ages, suddenly everyone ran out into the street, leaving their belongings. The city was instantly deserted, and only a dog warrior broke the silence. The cause was a short but powerful earthquake. At that moment, those who had previously insulted the Virgin Mary remembered her, fell on their knees and began to pray. “Brothers, I admit that I am a sinner and unworthy to preach to you. I should retire to some cave with a rosary and mourn our common sins, for I am no different from you. But, believing in the truth of the Gospel, the Apocalypse and the teachings of the Holy Fathers, I must speak to you in the language of our faith,” the trial approaches. I am not a prophet, but I fear that our adulteries, fornication, foul language, injustice and cruelty of the rich to the poor have made us monsters, superior to demons. One night God will give us a shake-up. And where will the palaces be then? Where are the courts, where are the barracks, where are the beaches, where is the tourism, where is the entertainment. All this will become as deserted as the land of Midian. O Lord, have mercy on us. Through the prayers of the Most Holy Theotokos, may God grant repentance and mercy to us all, so that we may glorify his name forever. Amen. Also, dear brothers and sisters, I would like to say that this great saint has the gift of prophecy. It is amazing that many of the prophecies of Metropolitan Augustine have already come true with amazing accuracy. The Chernobyl disaster. In the 1950s, he predicted a nuclear reactor accident, saying, “Dust will spread across the earth. People will have food, but they won’t be able to eat it. It will be contaminated.” In 1986, this prophecy came true. The radioactive cloud from Chernobyl covered much of Europe, and people really couldn’t eat the contaminated food. One day, during a conversation with his spiritual children, he suddenly fell silent and exclaimed, “An earthquake!” Everyone was puzzled, because it was completely calm. But a few minutes later, an earthquake really happened. Since then, many have become convinced of his foresight. The prophecy, fulfilled after his death, the abolition of Sunday. Metropolitan Augustine predicted the gradual abolition of Sunday as a day off and that one day an attempt would be made to establish Saturday, the Jewish Sabbath, as a day off. The first part is already being fulfilled before our eyes. The coronavirus pandemic. He prophesied. a new disease will come from the East, which will spread throughout the Earth. This disease will receive a fancy name, and the doctors of that time will not be able to treat it, which will lead to the death of many people. Isn’t this an accurate description of the SVD-19 pandemic? Closing of churches on Easter. The Bishop predicted: “The time will come when church bells will not ring on Easter. Believers will not celebrate Sunday in church, but instead will sit locked up.” This prophecy was fulfilled in Greece on Easter 2020. Coming prophecies awaiting fulfillment, a great earthquake. Metropolitan Augustine prophesied of a very strong earthquake that would shake the whole world. A great famine in Athens. He foresaw a great famine in the capital of Greece, as a result of which Athens would be deserted, and people would flock to the provinces in search of food. A great disaster. Once, passing through a village near Athens, he saw houses and sadly said: “Not a stone will be left here upon another, foresaw a great future disaster.” This saint possessed not only the gift of prophecy, but also amazing courage. He was not afraid of dictators and politicians. During the military dictatorship in Greece, the head of the junta Stylianos Spataka declared: “We rule over all of Greece, except for Florina, which is ruled by Metropolitan Augustine. Metropolitan Augustine was a true ascetic of piety. He was selfless and non-covetous. He spent his salary for the benefit of the church and left eternity without a penny in his pocket. As a bishop, he refused to wear a miter, considering it not an ecclesiastical, but a secular attribute. He said of himself: “Everything good that you see in me is not mine, but God’s, and everything bad is mine. Augustine, what amazing humility.” This great saint reposed on the day of the Dormition of the Most Holy Theotokos, August 28, 2010, having lived 103 years, Venerable Poissys the Athonite called him the Chrysostom of the last times, and he rightfully bore this name of the bishop. Saint Augustine concluded his sermon with words of repentance: “Brothers, I admit that I am a sinner and unworthy to preach to you. We should not unite in some cave with a rosary and mourn our common sins, for I am no different from you. But I believe in the truth of the Gospel, the Apocalypse and the teachings of the Holy Fathers. I must tell you in the language of our faith, the judgment is approaching. Each of us must honestly ask ourselves: whom do I serve? What do I worship? Christ or the golden calf of the modern world? The words of Metropolitan Augustine sound with particular power today. He was a true prophet of our time, who was not afraid to speak the truth, no matter how bitter it was. Before it is too late, let us turn to repentance, cleanse our hearts from filth, our lips from swearing, our thoughts from impurity. If he were alive today, he would certainly denounce all the absurd things that happen in our world. But he left us his spiritual heritage, his sermons, which have not lost their relevance today. Saint Father Augustine, pray to God for us. Through the prayers of the Most Holy Theotokos of Saint Augustine, may the Lord grant us repentance and conversion from the path of sin to life in Christ. Amen. M.
