new paper out on nicotenomide monucleotide. So let’s talk about it. This is actually an investigation of not the supplement but rather MIB626 which is the proprietary form made by Metro International Biotech. And you should know that Metro International Biotech funded this paper and a couple of the researchers also have ties to the company. However, that doesn’t necessarily impact these results. Let’s take a look at what happened in this study. 42 people in the hospital with COVID symptoms and also kidney problems. These are people in their 60s and they also have some other problems like diabetes and high blood pressure and other things. For 2 weeks, they gave these people either a placebo or 2,000 mg of MIB626 nicotenomide monucleotide or a placebo. And in case you’re wondering, they gave them 1,000 mg of NMN twice per day. And this was an oral form by the way. It was not IV. So one of the things they report in this paper is that yes m 626 NMN will raise NAD. And that makes sense. All the studies on nicotenomide monucleide show that it will raise it. However, they say something in this paper that I’ve never seen before. The levels of NAD rose slowly. And I can only surmise that it’s quite possible that COVID actually was speeding up the breakdown of NAD and preventing a rapid rise in NAD. And that may go to the fact they were using an oral form and not an IV form. But more to the point, did MIB626 help these people? So the results show that kidney function, no improvement in kidney function whatsoever. Did it reduce inflammation? No. Did it reduce creatinine levels or or cystatin C levels? No, it didn’t do that either. And did it affect COVID symptoms? No, it didn’t do that either. So, even though this is sponsored by the company, I applaud them for publishing these results. The study is small and it doesn’t really give us enough people to get a better idea. So, I’d like to see this study replicated with a larger number of people and maybe even take a look at maybe the IV form of MIB 626.
Researchers wanted to know if NMN could benefit people with COVID-19 who also had reduced kidney function. They used MIB-626, the form of NMN made by Metro Biotech International. The people were given 1000 mg twice per day for two weeks. Here’s what happened.
No change in kidney function, creatinine, inflammation or Covid symptoms compared to placebo takers. MIB 626 caused a gradual rise in NAD.
