ゼバスティアン・モディン:視力喪失からパラリンピックの栄光へ🏅❄️

I was born with glaucoma, which meant that I had like ten percent sight when I was a kid. But when I was six years old, I lost quite a lot of it during a surgery. And then when I was 12 years old, I lost even more. My name is Zebastian Modin. I’m 31 years old, from Sweden, and I’m a Para cross-country skier. I started Para cross-country skiing because I did so many sport when I was a kid. As my eyesight decreased, I tried to find other sports. I tried skiing and I actually fell quite directly into it. What I enjoy most with the skiing, I think it’s very complex. I mean, so many factors and variables, the pure endurance and strength to stability and technique and so many other things. My first Paralympic Winter Games was in Whistler in 2010. I was just to turn 16. I had the pleasure to race with Brian McKeever, who was then the shining star of the Para Nordic circuit. That was a really huge moment for me. My biggest achievements, I think it’s hard to choose. Some of the Paralympic medals I’ve been able to reach is, of course, the moments I value the most. Great performance from the lad from Frösön in Sweden. Bronze medal. Most important Paralympic medal? Maybe from the last Games (Beijing 2022). I had a really hard time coming into the Games. I started to struggle with the injury and I struggled with it for for more than two years and decided just to have a season where I just focused on rehabilitation and with much struggle, I was very happy to reach three medals there, and maybe the last one, because I had made two medals and I was very happy. And then the last, which was maybe not my best discipline, and I reached a silver. So maybe that is the best moment. I think the sport has changed quite a lot. It has grown year by year, in that direction, which is of course something that I really appreciate. The whole vibe around Para sport has been more professional, which I personally like a lot. Para sport has given me the opportunity to compete against athletes with the same disability and I think sport is so fun. The most important thing with sport is to enjoy it, and maybe for your body and health to practise it. My expectations for the Milano Cortina Games? It’s about having Games in Europe again which I think is very nice. Good sports and hopefully good results for me personally.
