hey hey hey what up my dudes sunday afternoon the sunday afternoon stargazer 018 stream that simply doesn’t happen it doesn’t happen unless there’s a monster hunter to play or a lot of fighting game to play i don’t have those things right now although monster hunter is coming pretty soon but we have something special going on today let’s hop over hello good afternoon my friends afternoon stream wow that’s not normal here i’m going to throw on guilty gear double xx no way have some guilty gear double xx holy orders i was listening to guilty gear double x while i was uh setting stuff up we’re we’re guilty double xx enjoyers over here so my friends what are we doing today wow that was a little loud hey may can you be quiet a little bit uh we are doing you can see it on the screen we’re doing guilty gear strive tier list so uh not character tier list music tier list because i’m not smart enough to tell you how balanced guilty gear strive is not even a little bit um so uh recently i released a video i i created a video about uh guilty gear music because i have a gross hyperfixation on guilty gear music i listen to it all the time basically constantly think about it all the time um that’s been true of me since i don’t know i was a child i’ve been in guilty gear since i mean it was like the double xx days i think it was well before plusr but uh i wasn’t really like good at fighting games back then and when i was at that age i didn’t know anything about music i still don’t know anything about music but at that age i didn’t really like music uh but the way that i discovered a love and a passion for this stuff is um i i started playing fighting games with friends the first fighting game i ever played the fighting game that i learned how to uh throw fireballs in uh that that game was capcom versus snk 2 uh at that time fighting games were in like a little bit of a drought there weren’t a lot of fighting games to play street fighter 4 came out uh and i wasn’t really into it but i was like trying to get into fighting games with some of my homies that uh like i met at the time that were showing me the power of fighting games and i i liked what i saw and then uh a little thing called blaze blueue happened and my life changed uh mostly because i heard the music in blaze blueue and holy holy that was that was an experience that was a spiritual experience for me uh so i began mass consuming everything there was to do with blaze blueue and uh i retroactively went back and consumed guilty gear as well and discovered yet another love a second love in guilty gear so it’s been a passion for me for a super duper long time am i extremely good at these games hell no uh i would probably place myself in the intermediate level uh maybe maybe like upper end of intermediate like right underneath good uh you know when i put a lot of time and effort into practicing at these games i can get kind of good at them blaze blue is my main game i’m i’m kind of decent at blaze blue kind of kind of decent just kind of decent uh so the thing that i like the most about these series of course uh beyond the fact that they are fun uh kakug is the artistry uh i love the artistic minds that made guilty gear and blaze blue and of course i’m chiefly talking about daikuari uh he of course is the father of guilty gear the the man behind you know most of it um and of course uh toshimorei is responsible for blaze blueue however there are lots of other creative minds that go into it as well as uh folks in my comments have pointed out to me um you know i’m i’m not uh like the biggest research head u don’t question me on like the hard facts about a great many things because boy will i not know anything i will quickly prove how stupid i am so uh yeah so there’s a lot of people that that work on this stuff and i think they’re very talented i think they they are very passionate and care a lot about the creation of these things and the more you consume them and and you know listen to them and find layers in them especially if you know anything about the source material and what inspires the artists the the more i think you discover that uh these things really are a work of art um more so than you might think i think you know the the average person who plays a fighting game probably just plays the fighting game and hears the music and thinks that sounds pretty good they don’t really you know consume it on a you know on an on an introspective level but i think that there’s a lot to consume on an introspective level with this i think i think it’s um there’s a lot of depth here and i i probably don’t have to explain that to you because if you like guilty gear and if you like blaze blueue i’m sure that you know that i’m sure that you at least have some understanding of that um so i i put out this video talking about uh a series of tracks throughout the legacy of guilty gear that i find to be i i would call it like the most important series of tracks in guilty gear um i think i think they’re probably the best series of tracks in guilty gear personally but um you know that that’s totally up to you to decide but a a series of tracks that i think are very important to the artist to dais the one who composed them um and uh i don’t know i think it was uh received fairly well because uh i don’t know i’ve been i’ve been thinking about this for a very long time thinking about that for a very long time i’ve talked about it on stream a lot if you’re a regular viewer of mine you know that i yap about that topic all the time uh whenever i have the opportunity to bring it up i will and the people that know me and uh pay attention to me are probably tired of hearing me talk about it so i decided why don’t i just just put it out there into the world and uh i don’t know it it it resonated with some people i think which i’m glad i’m very glad to share that with with folks i hope i hope that if you watch that video about uh those tracks in guilty gear the um related to justice that uh it taught you something maybe um and and gave you a a deeper appreciation or understanding of something that you hadn’t previously paid attention to or noticed um so uh do i think that i am an authority figure on these things yes uh i am the the one true guilty gear music analyst i know everything about guilty gear i know everything about the music in guilty gear and uh dice is literally my roommate he’s downstairs making sandwiches right now and he tells me everything about guilty gear i am the authority figure on it but actually no i’m not and uh my opinion is only special in so far as i’m obsessed with this [ __ ] uh so know that going into it of course i titled this stream the objectively correct guilty gear strive tier list everybody thinks that about their own tier list right um but mine is actually true so um pride fgc reached out to me and uh they liked my video they asked me to uh to to talk about this thing that i am uh stupidly hyperfixated on so um big supporter of uh pride month lgbtq plus pride is uh you know it’s it’s a it is a passion of mine i also uh just you know tweet out a bunch of garbage about how uh you know aunties make me angry all the time and unfortunately uh that is sort of my extent of contribution to the to the conversation um i myself uh i i myself am um you know lgbt but i don’t i don’t really talk about it it’s just not part of my you know the lexicon of content that i create i i just don’t really put it out there um but i um you know i feel a a personal connection to it um to protecting it and advancing it um so you know but i do i do keep my voice down a little bit um mostly the way that i would put that is that i you know i tend to feel that i just don’t have the best voice for uh for advocacy um i’m just not i’m not the most educated i’m not the wisest and i think that there are lots of people out there that are and that have a lot to teach me and i have uh more to learn than i have to say so i i like to mostly listen and express support where i can so that’s why i’m here today i’m here to uh pledge my support and um you know contribute contribute where i can so we’re going to talk about guilty gear drive music let’s talk about it so uh first thing i i kind of want to say right off rip of course is that tier lists are subjective i just said that i am the authority figure on this and that is true however um we are going to be discussing my opinions on this music um i’m going to explain as much as i can about uh you know my my readings on each of the tracks in guilty gears drive i’ve done this so many times uh that i i have pretty pretty well thoughtout opinions on most of them however there are a few that i haven’t given like a lot of consideration to um i’ll i’ll explain when i get to them but there are some tracks in guilty gear drive that that kind of just don’t resonate with me in some ways and i probably rate those tracks kind of low but you’ll probably hear me say things like “it’s a good song but i just don’t care for it very much.” um that that happens once in a while on the guilty gear strive tier list uh there are other points in time you know where a song may be a genre or maybe experimenting with a genre or motifs uh that are in a style that are not really resonant with me uh that i don’t really enjoy so again it might be a song that’s good and it might be a song that you enjoy but i’ll probably rate it kind of low for my personal enjoyment of it um my criteria typically tends to be like what um what measure i can read in the song um that’s kind of the thing that i like the most is how much you know how how how deeply i can sink into it um and how deeply i find myself sunken into it that is to say how long do i continue to listen to it weeks months or even years after it was released how much of an earworm is it to me because i just contemplate it all the time um when a song gets stuck in my head it’s usually because i am contemplating it it’s it’s it’s interesting you know it’s not the song doesn’t just roll around in my head and i can’t get it out of my head i’m usually thinking about it um i don’t know i’m just uh i’m i’m stupid like that or i don’t know strange like that it’s what i do anyway so we’re not going to listen to every song all the way through but i’ll probably play some of i have i have the little soundtrack um pulled up to do that i might make some comparisons to um other guilty gear tracks on other soundtracks um i especially would do that in a few places where i think that the reason for my rating on a song has to do with that comparison um as someone who’s been consuming guilty gear music for an extremely long time uh it’s impossible for me not to make comparisons like those uh and also not to form expectations um generally i’ll say this i’m very positive about strive i like strive i think strive is a is a good a really good fighting game it’s one of my favorite fighting games um it’s the guilty gear game i’ve played the most of i think um it’s it’s either that or plus r but um i i’m generally very positive about strive and i’m very positive about the soundtrack in strive i think strive is the third best guilty gear soundtrack which is here’s the thing this holds true of when you rate the guilty gear soundtracks against each other and also when you rate the songs um the songs on your list the way it sort of works is that um guilty gear soundtracks and guilty gear songs are so good they are they are so highly elevated in my opinion that um when you rate them against other things that are not guilty gear they’re they’re in a tier of their own they’re they’re above it right so when i say that something is the third best guilty gear soundtrack i’m also saying that it is a tier separated and above the next best thing not called guilty gear so uh bear that in mind when i say that there’s a song that i rate low on the strive tier list if i say i don’t like something or if i say that i i think it’s it’s not a good song or or something like that i’m i’m a little bit i’m being facicious because even the worst song in guilty gears drive in my opinion is uh probably better than the best song in the next best thing sometimes i think uh there are a handful of gaming ips or ips in general that have music that rise like to a similar level in my opinion to guilty gear um and or blaze blue i think i think guilty gear generally has better music than blaze blueue but very generally speaking um if uh if i was pressed to answer uh what the next best uh like soundsscape in in all of gaming is i would probably call it uh i’d probably say grand blue fantasy maybe um but in any case in any case let’s let’s talk a little bit about it so the the best way to start a tier list the best way to start a uh a tier list of course is to talk about what is the worst what is the worst song in guilty ghost so uh once again don’t get mad at me okay you’re going to get mad at me no matter what no matter what i say here no matter which of these songs i pick and say is the worst song in guilty gear strive someone’s going to be angry at me so i’m sorry in advance but actually i’m correct you’re wrong listen to what i have to say to you uh unfortunately my thoughts on this one are not the most complicated i’m gonna have to hit you with this one here uh i don’t like i don’t like this one this is uh johnny’s theme um i don’t like johnny in general i think it’s really it’s very strange to me that um i don’t feel like johnny has a lot of fans anymore is is that true i feel like um back in like the xr days i feel as if there was a lot of hype surrounding johnny people really liked johnny and wanted johnny to be in the game and when he was announced in strive i don’t feel like anybody cared maybe maybe i i wasn’t i wasn’t very uh like uh locked in and paying attention to what was going on in the in the community at the time um but in any case i’ve never really liked johnny he’s just not a character that that appeals to me or resonates to me but this isn’t we’re not ranking the appeal of johnny we’re ranking the song so it’s uh it’s one of those ones that falls into sort of a genre and a sound that just doesn’t appeal to my personal taste um it’s interesting because i actually do really like johnny’s theme in um xr uh i think it’s probably the only song belonging to johnny that is remarkable in any uh significant way um that’s kind of my issue with this one is i am just not impressed by it um but but that’s i’m not disappointed by that because i have no expectations of johnny impressing me um i’m i’m i’m listening to it here like on a technical level it’s not it’s not there’s nothing bad about it it’s just it just isn’t for me i just don’t like this um i this is this is probably the third time i’ve ever listened to this song i think the first time i listened to it i went “no don’t think so.” um and then maybe i’ve listened to it by accident a second time and then this is number three i don’t know uh it’s strange because i think that johnny’s a character that uh could or should have a whole lot of appeal behind him but i just don’t think he does not into it uh so i got to i got to rate johnny johnny’s theme it’s called just lean my least favorite song in guilty gear strike it’s a song i i after i stop it i’m probably never going to listen to it again uh so uh the the next one that i’d have to say i’d rate pretty low that’s right it’s it’s chipsy play the hero i got to put it in in f tier i’m not sure i might change the names of these so um i don’t think i need this many tiers for this actually to be honest with you i i feel as if i can probably put these in like e tier i don’t think i need an f tier there is no there’s no f tier song in guilty gear strike um i’m not even sure if i need a d tier i feel like c is sufficient but we’ll we’ll see where we get so um chip steam i have i have a few thoughts about chip steam so uh chip historically has pretty good pretty good uh songs um i think sucka sage is the you know like chip like peaked in high school like sucka sage is so good it’s it’s his original theme song it’s the one that appears through uh like guilty gear missing link and guilty gear double xx um it is it’s really just peak it has like every single thing you would possibly want for a chip theme to have that is to say it is a uh it’s an arrangement or a reinterpretation of back in the village by iron maiden uh full stop that’s what chip’s music is and every chip theme is that um the problem that arises with this song is it is the worst of the batch there are three of these now there’s uh there’s suck a sage there’s flash hider and then there’s play the hero and if you put them all in the same category and say which of these three songs does this idea the best it is suck a sage and which one does it the worst it is play the hero um my feelings on it are that it is there’s you know there’s a little too much goof in this song and that’s you know chip is a goofy character and and we love chip we love the president of the the chip kingdom right he is he’s goofy but i feel like uh guilty gear has this mystical way dai has this mystical way of blending uh goofiness and cool factor that produces some of the most unique and interesting ideas and characters that have ever been put to media seriously and chip is one of them and i think that uh suck a sage is composed perfectly for that where um you could miss that chip is a goofy character listening to that song and some of the most fun elements of chick are that when you see him he doesn’t look goofy when you listen to his song it doesn’t sound goofy and then when you learn about the character you are so mindb blown by how absolutely goofy this character is the goofiest dude ever and i love that i love that idea i think that play the hero is a little on the nose it’s a little obvious how goofy chick is um and sure it’s okay it’s okay for what it is there is a secondary element to why i’m not a big fan of the song and it is that when the original beta of guilty gears drive dropped we had four songs uh that were we could listen to uh outside of the beta following that because they were ripped out of the beta this was one of them and for that reason this is the best part of the song by the way i love this this sound that’s going on here i love this it’s cool and then it ends in like a strange carnival sounding thing i don’t know man not not for me but in any case uh yeah so i listened to this song one trillion times uh and i made myself kind of like uh ear blind to it so to speak i it’s the kind of thing where when you listen to something so many times you kind of never want to hear it again when you have when you have the choice and uh chip steam is not the only one that is a victim of this uh this issue however uh chip steam is the one that failed the hardest to recover from that for me uh because anytime i say i want to listen to chip i want to hear the chip vibe i want to hear i want to hear uh back in the village by iron maiden uh unfortunately i’m always going to suck a sage every single time i think that song is just substantially better um so for the most part my reason for rating chips team low is it um it loses the battle to its predecessor you shut up we’re not ready for you yet uh so uh next next on the list i’m going to throw on uh it goes here i’m going to put uh maze theme i’m going put disaster of passion here this is probably going to be controversial listen when somebody posts a guilty gear strive tier list it’s almost like you learn something about them immediately when you see where this song goes on their tier list um and i don’t mean that poratively i mean if you like this song more power to you i understand why you like this song i get it i understand i am standing respect at a respectful distance saying “yes that makes sense.” uh here’s my problem with it um this song is kind of cute and um well is it kind of cute it’s very cute um this vibe doesn’t make sense to me for me it just doesn’t um the problem is over a number of years over many years uh dice already told me what may’s vibe is this is a very like poppy uh high appeal um like pop is the best way for me to put it you know it’s it’s got like that cute bubble pop sound to it um and that’s what it wants to be but that isn’t the vibe that may has always had that doesn’t it doesn’t work for me um i feel as if there was almost like a a focus group tested idea put to put to work here where it was decided that may probably has that pop appeal to her and this is the kind of song we should give her in order to draw appeal to her which is pretty funny to me because when i think about the totality of the character that is may and i remember that she’s a charge character in fighting in in the fighting game that’s hilarious to me because i feel as if may is created uh almost like i said almost like focus tested in the modern era to be appealing to as many as many people as possible and i think it’s successful i think may is like may’s cool may’s cute i don’t i don’t dislike me uh but man did those people boot up a fighting game and play a charge character i don’t know about that i’m not sure uh at least me personally i can’t play charge characters so um more power to people who saw may thought she was cute and booted up uh guilty gear strive to play may because they liked the they liked the vibe of the character and were successful in doing so because that’s that couldn’t be me um so um i’m going to try to i’m going to give you an example we were listening to it at the start of the stream but um may’s theme in in guilty gear double x right this is this is how may traditionally sounds and i don’t i don’t feel that it has kind of like a like a pop style appeal to it it has it has a light-hearted and airy um you know it’s upbeat it’s rock you know and of course like how do you characterize rock you’re going to say “yeah sure it’s rock it has it has electric guitar in it right?” but no it’s it’s more than that it’s more than that um may’s music has this sort of intrepid feel to it because may of course is like a pirate and um there’s there’s like an adventurous sense that you get to it the song is called blue water blue sky which um is like too right for it it’s too right um what does the disaster of passion mean what does that mean um i i don’t know uh may is characterized by her like warship of johnny and being a goofy orphaned pirate captain and uh she’s japanese and in guilty gear the japanese are uh extremely supernaturally powerful it’s a lore thing look it up uh so um i don’t know i don’t i don’t think it it landed i don’t think it it made a good may theme and i can tell you that when i when i decide i want to listen to may music this is the song i’m listening to uh not that one i also think that may’s theme in guilty gear exard is really good too uh i think it is better than uh the disaster of passion i’m i’m a bigger fan of that song than the disaster of passion um but uh people that that decided they did like this song really like this song and more power to them i suppose um i’m correct but uh more power to you if you like the song that’s that’s cool i guess um it it is you know it’s almost in the right spirit but i think it missed the mark for me it it failed to be what i expect out of uh a may theme um so uh that’s that’s everything that i put in the bottom tier of guilty gears tier list i don’t rate anything as low as i rate these three songs uh everything else i will have nicer things to say about i think um at least i will try to so uh we’re going to put the first thing in the c tier and uh this one it’s going to be dizzy’s theme i’m put dizzy in c tier and i have i have stuff to say about dizzy of course i just released a 25minute video about uh justice and dizzy’s family and uh this this music this motif that’s in this music and um of course i love this music but um when i’m discussing my feelings about something um you know my thoughts are complicated they’re all over the place so even though that i think that disney’s theme is part of a a paradigm of the best tracks in guilty gear i don’t rate it that highly uh when considering my actual feelings about it so um what’s wrong with disney’s theme in this game um it’s it’s easiest to describe it as what’s wrong with it so i i think technically it’s a great song i think it’s a bop like you listen to it you can um you can you can really uh get lost in this song i guess um however dizzy is a character that is pretty important to guilty gear’s narrative um at least she was and she appears in a lot of other characters uh motifs and stories and and there are a lot of characters that surround dizzy like like elfelt remal jacko kai sin soul and uh now unica they they like all kind of surround and i feel as if with the way that dizzy’s theme has started appearing in so many other songs uh she’s she’s sort of the like ground zero for all these characters now um it’s strange because i don’t really feel that way about dizzy i personally wouldn’t put dizzy at the center of this this story but uh the people that are in charge of writing guilty gear dice and and the others that work on it um they clearly really like dizzy and that’s how they feel about dizzy so more power to them but um when you consider that when you consider how important gizzy is to those minds and to the to this plot um what does this song actually say uh i don’t i don’t actually really know uh dizzy is a character whose vibe across the games has been interesting um dizzy’s music of course is always very very upbeat and fast and electric and powerful uh you can literally hear it right now the uh the solo in this song and also in her her theme song uh one dawn in guilty gear exard are insane they they’re some of like the the most technically proficient and powerful sequences that dice has ever been responsible for um they’re they’re extremely extremely good i love them uh but i don’t know what they say about dizzy why does dizzy have this in her songs uh dizzy is like a cute soft-spoken uh you know loving now she’s a mother she’s a queen like it doesn’t seem right for dizzy um but of course it’s always been there so then you have to say well it is right for dizzy but does it match dizzy i don’t i don’t know that it does and then you know that’s where i have to pull in and extrapolate where i think it does come from and of course i i like i mentioned in my video i think it comes from justice because this is the vibe that justice has um of course this song is you know much brighter in tone than any of justice’s music but um it it sort of makes sense when you think about dizzy as the child of justice who is of course the the one responsible for like nuking the whole world and everything so then it starts to make sense and and it makes you wonder am i listening to justice’s voice through a lens that is dizzy or is this actually what dizzy’s voice is supposed to sound like i mean listen to this it’s it’s so good it’s really good but i don’t feel i don’t feel very much about dizzy when i listen to this song um there’s a couple of lines in here that reference uh kai and sin and then um i would say the rest of the song is mostly about um like dizzy’s sort of outlook on life because dizzy’s you know had a had a pretty tough tough way of kind of like integrating into humanity and guilty gear is like still about that uh so i think the lyrics are pretty good i think i would probably rather see a character better defined by their themselves than the characters that are part of their their narrative like like a husband in a son um but i don’t i don’t think it’s bad i like i like hearing references to those characters but it’s not my favorite part about it so um i rate disney’s theme kind of low i don’t come back to it very often it’s a song that i would skip i also think um i also think it’s a little bit slop right you know um you can you can write something that kind of doesn’t uh doesn’t inspire you to think all that much and it’s just it’s just like brain off good it’s kind of you know it’s like it’s slop that’s kind of how i feel about the song a little bit like when i listen to this i just kind of feel like i’m consuming like a technically proficient really like like a headbanging type song it’s kind of slop though i don’t i don’t i just i don’t care that much about it i wish i felt differently um but unfortunately i just don’t uh so that’s that’s where i would place disney theme uh next one i’m going to put on here is uh everybody’s most favorest character in the whole entire world is uh brisket uh brisket is cool i i like bridget uh bridget is a character i played a little bit in uh double x and i really like bridget’s theme in double x and i don’t really have anything against this song too much it’s one of those ones that doesn’t quite appeal to me something that i like that dice does of course is uh play with play with genres and play with sounds and create a something unique and different not every song is the same sort of like you know heavy metal style thing like when you first get into these soundtracks you might think that when you hear the the like headlining songs but actually there’s there’s so much depth and i think that this is one of the songs that um a song you could point to that creates a lot of depth you when you’re introducing guiltier’s music to someone you could point at the song and be like “listen to this this is on the same soundtrack as like souls theme.” um which is cool i like that um this one i have to say is just one that it doesn’t quite appeal to me it’s for a lot of the same reasons that may theme doesn’t appeal to me it’s got that pop appeal to it um which uh i think is great if you are into that i simply just am not really um i also i can’t claim to like understand bridget’s character too much uh i i’ve never really dove into it too greatly um i like bridget and i like everything that i’ve really learned about bridget um what i remember back in the day thinking was pretty interesting about bridget was learning that she was a bounty hunter um like like seeing bridget’s appearance back in the in the vibe of like the guilty gear double x era and learning that bridget was a bounty hunter was like whoa what is up with that and i love that vibe in guilty gear so bridget’s always a character that’s like always been on my radar it’s like i i like the vibe of this character i certainly do um i’m not sure if that’s like still really true in modern guilty gear because i think like the concept of a character being a bounty hunter doesn’t really match up with like the modern uh storytelling style or or ideas of guilty gear but um this song does not make me think of a bounty hunter i’ll tell you that much but um yeah i i don’t think this song is is bad it’s just not one that i find myself returning to and listening to it’s cute i think it’s cute uh but not one of my favorites uh so we need to talk about we need to talk about uh everyone’s man everyone’s boy actually i think gold lewis has really fallen in favor over time um i i think i think uh anyone would agree with me of that i think when gold lewis came out tons of people were so excited for this character because he has all the goof factor of guilty gear uh unfortunately the cool factor doesn’t work for me and i know that there are plenty of people out there to whom the cool factor does work for uh sadly not for me not i wasn’t really into it uh when when gold lewis was announced as the first uh dlc character in guilty gears drive uh i i slept i said “wake me up when we get to the second one not interested in this.” uh i like the goof but uh anyway this this song is uh again it plays with genres um there’s forgive me i’m not very good at music but i’m going to say what i think kind of appears in this song is a sort of like blues vibe um whatever it is that i’m identifying and calling blues is something that i am just not that into um i understand the appeal of it but it’s not for me uh now i think if we’re talking about a song that has that sort of like heavy you know this heavy vibe to it there’s a better example of this on this soundtrack and it’s not even close there’s a there’s a much better example of this on this soundtrack so when i got this song the the first thing that i thought was man this is just like that other song on this soundtrack only i like that other song so much better uh and uh you know so when i think about wanting to listen to the song i’m like why don’t i just listen to the better version of this song the other one that i like more uh so do i think it’s bad no it’s just not for me um so i i i would say i don’t like it but it’s not bad um i don’t find myself coming back to this one i don’t listen to this one basically ever uh so uh next i’m going to put uh giovana’s theme here giovana’s like so cool she’s one of the coolest new characters in guilty gear strive um unfortunately i kind of feel that not a lot was like done with giovana i wasn’t that impressed by giovana’s like uh inclusion in the plot and like who she is in the narrative and stuff she looks so cool though her moves are so cool um i like i love her voice work too her voice work is like really iconic to me because one of my friends that i play guilter strive with a lot i’ve played a lot with them on stream was for a long time a javana main so i have like giovanna’s voice lines and stuff are drilled into my head and um i’m i’m a big fan uh why do i have a problem with this song um this one actually i think the the genre that it it it touches on is actually pretty good i actually i actually like it um i’ve heard like uh some some folks have posted like compilations of music that um are most likely they act as the inspirations for this song and um i’ve really liked hearing that hearing where where this vibe kind of came from it’s cool um however uh this is another one of those songs that we got early during the beta of guilty gears drive i listened to it a lot and i really wore myself out on it and it’s not a song that’s exciting enough to uh pull itself back from that so unfortunately i rate it pretty low u but i don’t have a lot of negative things to say about it i just i just really don’t want to listen to it anymore like basically ever again it’s it’s boring it’s kind of boring but if you like it i would say um you’re boring uh no you’re fine but uh it’s it’s not it’s not my favorite i don’t dig on it that much uh okay so so here’s here’s one that i have some thoughts on so um i’m i’m still putting it here so in c tier steam i have some thoughts about steam the so i when guilty gears tribe was coming out and we were getting um trailers for the characters that included previews of their themes very famously i think i watched a lot of these trailers on stream as they came out and very famously the preview that we got of anie’s theme was the most exciting one to me leading up to the release of guilty drive anie’s theme was the song that i was the most excited for and of course in the previews of these songs we didn’t have the vocals it was only the instrumentals and the instrumentals of this song sounded so good to me and they are they really are they’re some of the best in the whole soundtrack this one suffers from as soon as you add the vocal track into this song unfortunately it tumbles down the tier list uh i i guess i’m not a big like an guy i don’t mind an in any way i think he’s cool but uh problem is there’s so much that’s just so cool like so rule of cool about these instrumentals and i think that the vocals are like a party that’s not exactly what i was expecting not exactly what i was wanting um maybe that was kind of always the vibe of anie so it fits but it it actually it’s it’s a problem of expectations i set my expectations kind of high about this song and unfortunately it didn’t meet them um so i would say that it it lands in ctier for me for being a disappointment um and there’s actually a song on the soundtrack that i’m going to talk about later that was exactly the opposite where when i heard it in a trailer i thought that it sounded kind of kind of mid i wasn’t really that interested in it but when i got the full version and i heard the vocals i was blown away and it became one of my favorite songs on the on the tier list or on the soundtrack rather um i i like the sound of this song a lot this is one that i actually will go back and listen to um this one makes it into like my regular listening playlist for the strive soundtrack um a little bit tentatively like it’s it’s one that i might hit the skip hit the skip button on once in a while but um i do like this song but mostly it’s a it’s a tentative light that makes me say i wish i liked it more i wish i loved it unfortunately i don’t so uh next one might be controversial it’s going to be millia we’re going to we’re going to put on millia steam so what is what was wrong with millia’s theme okay so i’m a little offended by millia’s theme actually here’s here’s an there’s an issue there’s a fundamental issue with millia’s theme that bothers me to no end and it has to do with the legacy of this character and the vibe that this character has always had historically throughout guilty gear and how this song is wrong it’s just wrong the song is made wrong um so it’s quite different and it’s funny because they announced millia and and zatoto at the same time and they put this song in uh in the theme that that was combined for uh in the trailer that was combined for millia and zatoto it was only this song in that trailer and we didn’t know if it was millia’s theme or zatoto’s theme or a combination of both and uh it kind of makes sense because those two characters are very like strongly linked in guilty gear story not in the best of ways but um if you really really forced me to tell you whose song this was when we had no vocals to it and and we didn’t know i really would have said zatoto um much of the song wasn’t heard you know stuff like this wasn’t heard in it at that time uh the reason is because the vibe of guilt of of millia’s music um i’m going to throw on millia’s song so here’s millia’s song from guilty or double x so the first thing you hear is this sort of it’s got this really kind of like dignified or noble sound to it um you could mistake millia for being someone who’s like a knight i suppose um especially because her like color scheme in the earlier games was very similar or identical to kai’s color scheme and i think that also bled through to like when you looked at blaze blueue when you became initiated in in learning about blaze blueue and saw noel and jyn um they both actually are knights from the same organization knights quote unquote um just an interesting paradigm that was generated but very important in this song is the inclusion of harps accord i i don’t even know if i should say inclusion it’s it’s almost the lead instrument in this song it kind of is the lead instrument of this song um and the harps accord i think is the instrument that defines millia and it it is also present all the way through her theme in uh exart as well um and that song is uh that song’s called the lily of steel and uh it that song sounds like a sequel to this song and that that one’s really good i might even like it more than this one uh and millia’s theme in strive i feel is not it’s not a sequel to those songs it’s something entirely different and i feel like the best argument you can make for something like that happening is well millie has changed a lot as a character i mean her design’s changed quite a bit but is that actually very true especially as of guilty gear strive my opinion is millia changed the most dramatically from you know during the jump from guilty gear double x to guilty gear xard and her change from exard to strive is not anywhere near as substantial not not in my opinion enough to warrant all this now you could also argue maybe it’s duke doing house cleaning maybe uh maybe duke thought millian millia’s sound should have changed more in guilty or exard and maybe he’s kind of he’s doing a little bit of a cleanup job and modernizing millia’s sound sort of in post where it it could have stood to be modernized a little earlier maybe um those would be interesting conversations to have with the man i’d love to pick his brain about that but uh in this case i think this one failed me a little bit um is it technically impressive yes it is it’s it’s actually really good um i like listening to it do think um i would i would use the word generic to describe this one a little sometimes only because i think if you really thought about what kind of song might describe millio and also you know contain a whole lot of like appeal in the same way that say like maze theme does um you would say something like a ballad of longing or um you know the word ballad would have to come up because she’s like the fem fatal character um i love her as like in in like a spy role she’s like a spy/ assassin it’s really cool she has a really cool uh power set she’s she’s just a super awesome character and again i love the voice work for millia too um but that’s what i expect that’s what i would expect and i think that this is so by the numbers in that regard that um you know the first time i listened through to this through this i was like “wow really cool.” uh definitely impressed me and is the thing that i expected but where’s the stuff i didn’t expect it doesn’t exist there’s nothing in here that i didn’t expect um unfortunately and i wanted to be a little surprised by that and the problem is is that guilty gear strives soundtrack contains a lot of stuff in it that is surprising um really does stand up and and become surprising in in that way that i was kind of hoping to see um and unfortunately this was one that didn’t didn’t do it um in previous iterations i would have said millia’s theme was like in the in the top five tracks on the soundtrack but here it it failed to be that there are so many better tracks that it it couldn’t make it it couldn’t it couldn’t hack it couldn’t get higher than this uh so that’s where it lands for me um next i have to put the boy soul bad guy find your one way so guilty gear strive was finally the time where daisy could take the training wheels off he has he has a vocalist he has naoki and um you know aisha and other vocalists on the payroll now to work with um i you know and it seems to me like they’re probably pretty good friends too at least at least i’m pretty sure that naki and dice are i think they’re they’re working in collaboration i don’t think that it’s um it’s solely designed by any one person i think that they work together on this that’s my opinion um so dik finally had the ability to to take soul bad guy who is his self-insert character the character that you know kind of is dice k in this game in this series and and go crazy and do the most soul bad guy thing unfortunately it isn’t the most soul bad guy thing man it isn’t it’s so boy it is so not impressive it’s not i would have thought that the soul bad guy theme in guilty gear strive with the vocals would have gone so crazy so crazy but it feels like an intermediary track like it feels like it’s in between the the vibe of soul bad guy and the definitive fullon full power 100% soul bad guy track h man that’s tragic um the the riff that defines soul bad guy appears in this song it’s in here it’s it’s good where it appears um there’s some queen that crops up in this song which is so totally appropriate um but man i would have really liked to hear something a little more crass come out of this you know i think that soul is a character that is so rough around the edges and i think that this song doesn’t have a lot of those edges you know you can’t cut yourself on this song it’s not very edgy i want some more edge in a soul bad guy song man uh i think uh souls theme in guilty gear 2 is my favorite one i also am a big fan of the one in ex um soul doesn’t have any bad themes i’ll say that this song is not bad um but it is the worst soul bad guy song uh the one in guilty gear 2 i think is the best one keep yourself alive three it’s my favorite uh soul bad guy song um so that’s just kind of how i feel about this one uh i i kind of wish it was edgier that’s the best way for me to put it it’s not it’s not quite edgy enough i think that i think that soul bad guy you know there’s that there’s that funny old meme that you know arc system works made the the soul bad guy and kai kiss uh cologne at one point and somebody said that soul bad guy the soul bad guy scent would sound like uh uh cigarettes and uh and body odor like that’s perfect i love that like man is that the vibe i get from this song not quite i don’t know i like this song though here’s this old bad guy riff in the song i kind of wish it was in the song more you know the song is structured around a different riff which i think that all the songs are they’re really not meant to be structured around the the songs that they’re based on i feel like soul bad guy should have been though in a way that it’s not so beyond soul bad guy i’m going to put foust uh alone infection this song is technically quite impressive and very creative i love the creativity on display with this one and this is one that surprised me a lot um i was very surprised by how much i like this song because traditionally fa themes not very impressive to me don’t care about them that much but uh i like this one big fan of this one um the chorus in this song is super duper creative goes all over the place i like the lyrics in this song too um i’m saying only good things about it here’s the problem it’s another one of the ones that we had early and i over listened to it and i burned myself out on it so personally i have a hard time going back to and listening to this song again in the future however this is a song that i’ve had a lot of thoughts about that i’ve done a lot of listening to that i’ve contemplated a lot so i rate it very high in my c tier because i do really like this song but it’s just not a song that i can really go back to anymore i’ve i’ve sort of ruined it for myself if i were to be like if i were to try to be like fully totally objective about it i would probably rate it in like middle of b tier or maybe maybe top of b tier like somewhere here but uh incorporating like the way that my personal feelings have developed on it over time i end up putting it in c tier uh just note i do not really dislike this song i don’t i think it’s quite good i like this i really love the the wrap-up of this song this stuff [Music] this is the creativity and the sound that i love coming out of the guilty gear tribe soundtrack i love how this sounds you know toward the end you have this whailing guitar in the background like the melody like the melody of the guitar we’re hearing now this is so good but i have to rate it somewhere accounting for the totality of my feelings on it and for that reason that’s where it lands where it does my feelings are overall quite positive about that song i would say um and i feel the same way about roar kai’s theme here’s the problem okay not this one uh we need kai’s theme so kai’s theme on every technical level is impressive and good um i will say it fails to surprise me it is definitely exactly what i expected out of kai’s theme i was definitely hoping for something that really made me gasp when i heard it because here’s the thing kai’s themes throughout guilty gear and i don’t think this is a controversial take are some of the best music in all of guilty gear holy orders and magnolia eclair and uh like we can even talk about like pillars of the underworld um and the name of it is escaping me but he has a really good one in uh iska as well um his songs are so good they are some of the best tracks in all of guilty gear this song has the impossible task sort of like soul’s theme of being the the 100% power level kai theme is it i don’t think it is don’t think it’s quite there i think that that like holy orders especially feels like it has a higher power level than this song um is this song bad no but it it did not it it did not end up being the kai theme for me holy orders is still in um this song is also lacking a little bit of edge now if you think that kai is a character that shouldn’t have any edge in his theme because he’s a good boy and he’s he’s the nightly kingman um you need to study guilty gear lore kai is edgier than you think uh i think that uh holy orders especially is a song that conveys some of kai’s edgginess in it uh i i think the edgginess is all gone here and maybe that’s intentional maybe they’re trying to say you know kai is that good boy now entirely but my opinion there should have still been some edgginess in here especially you know they gave kai dragon install that you know an enigmatic dragon install in this game do we hear the idea of kai’s dragon install in this song no it’s not expressed i don’t think it is for that reason i can’t rate it very highly and i’m very disappointed by that i’m i’m very very disappointed by that i i love kai kai’s one of my favorite characters in guilty gear he’s up there for me he’s like probably top top five characters in guilty gear but sadly this didn’t do it for me in a in the way that i hoped so i was let down by it uh one step higher we’re moving into b tier now putting hell out the leo i think is not a very popular character i think the reason is nobody likes playing against lao and i get that but listen to this song this song sounds awesome and i think that leo’s theme in guilty xr was awesome too really awesome the best part about this song to me is what it’s about i i probably don’t have to explain this to you if you’ve ever you know really listened to and thought about the lyrics in in lao’s theme you know you can you can really put it into simple words it’s the war is hell song and i love that um i don’t i don’t actually know enough about leo’s backstory to tell you if it if it’s about something in lao’s past um but i don’t need to know that what my imagination does listening to this tells me everything i need to know even if it’s not true about leo and it’s a song that’s just about a motif that that makes sense to talk about with the character i’m sure that leo is a war hero you know he’s he is he he did you know he did suffer through through the crusades but um i don’t need to know it the song tells me everything i need to know um i don’t know if i think it’s here’s the beauty of it i don’t think it’s telling a story about leo um i don’t think the things in this song are things that literally describe the the actual experiences that leo had in his past probably not and i hope not i think it’s better as a theme um i have so much to say about that i could talk about that forever i think i think it’s great it’s very creative very interesting very thoughtprovoking um so i rate it quite high the reason that it’s probably like down in in b tier is because um you know it it doesn’t quite hit like the same high highs that some of the other tracks in guiltier do um it’s a song that i kind of like listen to start to finish and have like the same feelings about all the way through um those are positive feelings but you know my heart doesn’t flutter my heart doesn’t soar i don’t i don’t totally fall in in super duper love with it um there’s um there’s an area of the song that i very much love um in in order for me to reference what i love about this um i have to take you to this this vibe that that comes up in my mind um i’m gonna play something else while i yap about this um because i have i have some thoughts i’m going to play saka sage for you okay i think of the the vibe that is conveyed inside of um media that came out of like the um you know like the the war eras of the united states where war was very like propagandized and glorified in a way that is very gross and very very hard to hard to stomach looking at and those things are are um they’re they’re satarized and they’re used in in pieces of media all the time um the vibe of like that that tv propaganda or or radio propaganda that was created during um you know like world war i world war ii um and even like you know through through vietnam and other conflicts that you know especially in the united states where war was glorified in a way that that you can feel wasn’t right it was it was just wrong it was it was always wrong and other pieces of media that i feel have done things like this um on their face i would first point to like games like the fallout series i haven’t actually played those games but i’ve seen a lot of content about those games and the way that like tv propaganda is is made so um you know it’s satarized and it’s made consumable and it’s it’s funny and it’s also a a poignant commentary um and uh i think another place that this comes up this is the one that i compare most when i’m talking about laos’s theme is um if you if you have ever seen the uh the first captain america movie the um not the very first one but the mcu captain america movie where at the start when steve rogers is made into captain america and he’s he’s paraded around as like the american hero he’s he’s going to save us from from the war and everything and everybody looked up to him and they used him as a a way to promote and recruit for the military in a way that makes you feel kind of nasty about it it’s not it’s not good you know it’s not real not everybody’s going to be a super soldier and and be able to fight and and there there’s going to be tragedy and hardship and pain involved in this and it’s and it’s so glorified you know you have that scene of captain america on the stage with all like the uh like the can can dancers and stuff um and it’s it’s got that dark feeling to it that’s underneath this bright you know under these bright spotlights and and bright colors and stuff and i think that that is in this song you know i hear it here in lao’s theme because it’s a it’s like an anti-war song you know this portion of this song i feel is you know it expresses that form of art to me it is that commentary it has that those bright colors and those spotlights on it you know i can see steve rogers on the stage with the dancers here so that’s how i feel about lao’s theme i i think it’s very good i i i really like it i think it’s very artistic and and really good um very interesting um the next one i’m going to throw on here is uh slayer uh slayer what can i say uh the the fusion of uh heavy rock or hard rock and and jazz it’s sublime it’s amazing every time dice gate does it it hits it hits it just works um do i think that this song it’s just like laos it doesn’t rise to the same high highs that other stuff on this soundtrack does um but i don’t really need it to i’m not asking it to i got what i wanted out of slayer’s theme in basically every sense um i listened to this one once in a while i really like it it’s really good and i think that a lot of people have done some cool like breakdowns on how it’s like almost not just a sequel to slayer’s past themes but it’s like it’s almost like the same song it’s like you could listen to all of slayer’s music all in a row and it like forms one collective song and i really really love that um so i think it’s very creative do i care about slayer as a character no not at all i really super don’t care about slayer but i don’t but that doesn’t matter i don’t care that i don’t care i really like his music uh i i love every slayer theme kind of the same i feel the same about all of them they are all like solid a tier songs or like a or in this case b tier songs which is still quite good on this soundtrack um on the soundtracks that they appear in so uh slayer’s theme super good overall i love the jazziness to it i’m not even a jazz person i don’t even really like jazz i’m not going to listen to jazz in my free time but damn do i really like getting to dip my toes into a little bit of jazz and feeling like a like a distinguished uh tea sipping lad at a at a nice you know cool smoke filled jazz bar i don’t know uh sometimes i like to feel like i belong there i don’t but um i feel that way when i listen to slayer music i love it love it love it love it so i rate slayer’s theme uh in btier uh next up uh this is the most underrated song in guilty gear try i’m just going to say it most underrated uh whatever your feelings about this song are you rate it lower than you should axel’s theme it’s the top of btier for me it’s right under what i would consider like the best tracks in guilty gears drive um everything above axel’s theme i would say is like exceptional everything else we’re going to talk about is like exceptional in guilty gear drive so um i just love the vibe of this song i love the lyrics in this song um i could listen to this song one trillion times and never get tired of it i feel uh it’s so interesting it’s so wacky it’s wacky in just the best way i think that axel is like pretty much just a goofy character i don’t i don’t feel like he has like the cool factor that chip is uh like like the dissonance doesn’t appear the way it does in chip’s uh music uh i think the first time i listened to this song i probably rated it pretty low but the more i listened to it and consumed it and really dove into it the more and more that i loved it um it’s so cool love the lyrics love the sound to it um i think that you you owe it to yourself to give this song a better chance than i think most people do you should really listen to this one boy it’s really good such a great vibe right you know really it’s it’s a vibe it takes you it takes you places it takes you on a trip when you listen to this song i love it um so i i rate this song pretty high trying to speed up a little bit because i’m going a little too slow uh so that’s where i put axis theme and uh so we’re going to get into a tier now and we’re going to talk about stuff that i think is pretty exceptional except first i got to talk about jack’s theme we got to talk about perfection can’t please me so um i rate this song pretty high that’s interesting because i don’t think most people really like this song very much uh it’s a justice theme again i love justice it gets like a it gets like a passive buff dizzy’s also gets it unfortunately not quite the same way this one does the best i can say about this song is the heart wants what it wants the ear wants what it wants and once in a while this is exactly what i want um this this has like a lot of the same issues that i take with something like maze theme uh or melia’s theme or bridget’s theme however uh this is the this is the one example that makes it for me it climbs over the barrier i like listening to this song um the the way the instruments are used in this song i love i love the piano that appears all the way throughout this song uh super good and i love the the really like goofy the goofiness that is expressed in jacko is so fun to me um jacko is a character that is like surprisingly goofy a character where if you read the you know it’s the it’s the reverse of chip right where when you when you look at chip you you don’t see something goofy when you hear chip’s music you don’t hear something goofy but when you learn about chip it’s so goofy jacko is kind of the opposite where when you see jacko you see jacko’s gameplay it looks so goofy when you hear jacko’s music it sounds kind of goofy but when you learn about jacko it is not goofy at all it is the most serious thing you’ve ever heard it is the most complicated anime lore you’ve ever heard in your life and when it happens in reverse it’s so interesting to me i actually really love it uh so for that reason this song ends up in a it goes into a uh classification that is it’s different than others and i really love it um texas stampers thanks for coming to reserve i appreciate you uh odyssey odin’s eye dude every time i read your name i see i i i want to say odyssey first and then i have to read it a second time and i just did it out loud i’ve never done it out loud before yo thank you i appreciate you guys becoming observers uh thanks for thanks for following i’m yapping about guilty gear music i started at 1:00 i think i was supposed to start at 1:00 that’s at least what i was told but then i looked at the schedule right before i started i was like “wait a minute it says two.” uh so i’ve been yapping for an hour already but i still have plenty more yapping to do uh appreciate you guys coming through i’m going to do a whole lot more yapping um i have a lot more to talk about we’re talking about jacko’s theme but we’re about to move on from jacko um next up i’m going to talk about one of the coolest characters in guilty gear strive nagori yuki holy [ __ ] i love this character naggoryuki is so [ __ ] cool when this dude was announced i could not believe what i was seeing now i i love blaze blueue right i’m a big blaze blueue guy blaze blue is my favorite thing in the whole universe and one of the coolest characters in blaze blueue is of course hawkman hakan is so so cool if you like blaze blue you got to like hawkman he’s so cool and hakaman is so cool that in my opinion they put him in guilty gear they put hakaman in guilty gear and [ __ ] that is awesome um you might think hey uh is that really superficial he’s just a samurai with a mask and a big sword i’m not too sure about that because if you played the story in guilty gear strive i want to i want to just i’m going to tell you what happens regarding nagoryuki in the story of guilty gear strive okay he is a a man from the distant past sort of who is brought back to present day by an antagonist and his purpose for being in the story is to contend with the protagonist and the reason that he does is because the protagonist is near invincible and unstoppable yo odin thank you so much for the raid i appreciate you hey what’s up what’s up uh we are doing a guilty gear strive music tier list uh i of stargazer 018 i have too many thoughts regarding the guilty gear strive uh soundtrack guilty of gear music in general uh i love guilty gear i love blaze blue um i i yap about this stuff infinitely yes yes happy pride i appreciate you thanks so much for inviting me for me to uh talk on this stuff and uh to talk for for pride uh i appreciate it and uh yeah i’m very happy to lend my voice hey listen i’m uh my biggest biggest vibe for me trans rights that’s that’s the most important thing that’s like one of the most important things in in my life uh that i i you know i think about it and i talk about it all the time uh so appreciate you guys yeah yeah h happy pride my dudes um myself personally i i suppose i would describe myself as uh pan but i don’t i don’t talk about it too too much just because i think that um i have i have a lot of privilege when it comes to my you know how i present i i i probably present uh straight in a lot of the way that i um represent myself uh and for that reason i feel that i i i have a lot of privilege and for that reason i try not to talk too much you know i let voices that are not quite as privileged and are are wiser and better educated on on the subjects and advocacy than me do the talking um but i definitely always want to lend my voice and be a part of the conversation where i can so uh that’s that’s my approach to these things but i’m very very uh glad and grateful to have been uh asked to participate in in this event so that’s what i’m here to do talking about the music in guilty gear strive that’s you know i i have too many thoughts so i was talking about relating nagoryuki to hakaman right so what i was saying is that nagoryuki was brought in to contend with the protagonist by the antagonist because sole bad guy is a near invincible protagonist he he pretty much just can’t be harmed by anybody he can’t be touched by anybody except nagoriuki possesses a weapon that is capable of harming soul bad guy and creating wounds on him that do not heal and for that reason soul bad guy has to worry about nagori yuki and and deal with him um avoid contending with him avoid fighting him in direct open confrontation throughout all of uh guilty gear strive’s story and uh maybe you’ve never consumed blaze blue’s story before but that is exactly what hakaman is that is precisely what hakaman is he is a warrior from the distant past whom an antagonist brought back to the present who gets in the way of ragna the blood edge the protagonist who is a near invincible person and hakome’s weapon can damage ragna and create wounds that he cannot recover from and for that reason ragna has to work around hakuman in the story as an invincible protagonist so i think my opinion is nagoryuki was porting hakumen to guilty gear and they did such a phenomenal job i love nagoryuki he’s so cool we listen to his entire theme all the way through now listen i’m going to say this i love nagoryuki’s theme it is so cool such a cool theme one of my favorite things that dice does is work uh like traditionally eastern or or uh like kind of classically japanese uh sounds into a lot of the songs that he does he has a lot of songs in which he does that and i think it’s done incredibly here here is something that holds nagoryuki’s theme back um i want to play for you another clip um nagori yuki’s trailer so in nagoryuki’s trailer here it is right this is what this is what we heard in the trailer for nagoryuki it’s an unfinished version of nagoryuki’s theme that doesn’t have any lyrics to it doesn’t have the the vocals and i gotta tell you it sounded better than the final product i love the final product but this did stuff to my imagination that didn’t actually end up appearing in the final i’m going to i’m going to listen to the solo in it right listen to this [Music] that’s a that’s a different rendition of the solo that appears in this song i’m going to try to find the solo though right yeah so here’s the solo that appeared in the final [Music] i got to tell you it’s a downgrade it’s a downgrade i think that the the yeah the b side the unfinished one was better i actually think it was better i so i think that um finishing the song was to its detriment sadly uh however still think it’s a really good song i put it in a tier i love it uh so let’s see we’re still we’re still working through a tier um i put that one in there so next we have to talk about a song that i think a lot of people really love uh this one we’re going to put zato steam here zato steam i think appears pretty high on most people’s tier lists and and i think for a really good reason because it’s a song with a lot of layers to it it’s a song that has there’s a lot you can say about this song there’s so many elements in this song that work so so so well um there are two voices in this song this song is sung by a combination of zatoto and eddie because of course zotto is two characters um eddie is a separate entity that is attached to zatoto it’s zatoto’s shadow and it’s also like his weapon and his guardian his protector and it’s a goofy little man uh we love eddie zato is a character that’s been through a lot in his tenure in the guilty gear story he’s literally died he has also at one point been the worst person imaginable um you can read about that if you want i’m not going to talk too much about it it’s it’s not very good uh but man what an interesting and creative thing to do here there’s so many layers here it’s it’s it it you know when you first hear this you probably think man it doesn’t it doesn’t make sense the way that the the vocals are matching up with the instrumentals it doesn’t make sense but that’s the point it’s perfect it’s so good it’s supposed to do that to you because there’s two voices in this song and they don’t always get along naturally i can say that now here’s a reason why i don’t rate it among my favorite songs in book of us i don’t like zato i hate this character i hate this character he’s actually probably my least favorite character in guilty gear um i love his music i love all the music around zatoto it’s great man does zato fail to be the character that this music is written about he just he sucks i hate zatoto he’s the worst zatoto is is he did so much horrible stuff in his original appearance in guilty gear he’s guilty gear is maybe uh sorry zatoto is maybe like really the main antagonist of guilty gear you you have like two schools of thought right justice is the antagonist of guilty gear for about 40% of the cast of guilty gear and zato is the antagonist to the other 60% and zato is horrible he’s like the worst dude ever and then he dies and eddie possesses his body and he becomes eddie for a while and that is where he peaked because i like [ __ ] this stupid shitty zato guy that i hate get him out of here murder him make the funny eddie guy who’s like an evil demon possess his body and now i like him more and then zatoto was resurrected and forgiven for all of his sins and everybody just let zatoto be like a government operative agent spy man now why are we forgiving this guy because he has no memories listen you might say like that’s a fine justification within within the universe of guilty gear sure but me as a consumer of it i don’t accept it i can’t accept it i can’t forgive this war criminal man zato being forgiven for all this stuff just because he has no memories it’s the fact of it is i don’t like it uh so for that reason i don’t like zatoto um and so there’s always a little bit of like a debuff to my appreciation of zatoto uh westfield og thanks for coming server i appreciate you my dude i have too many thoughts about guilty gear music so we’re talking about it we’re talking about it here uh uh happy pride month happy pride i hope the event’s going super duper well um i know blaze blueue is happening at it’s at 3 now um i’m i’m actually really happy to be able to headline blaze blueue cuz uh i’m a blaze blueue guy i’m a blaze blue player i love blaze blue more than anything so um but i probably have more thoughts about guilty gear’s music than i do blaze blaze so those are my overall feelings on it although i think that zato’s theme let me carve your way is a super ultra creative song that is like infinitely uh revisitable um i i love it to death i think it’s really really great super duper creative i i just hate that it’s attached to a character that i [ __ ] hate um remember dice taking inspiration from faith no more for this i don’t know what that is but i believe you and i will do independent research on it uh next up i’m going to talk about uh it’s not on this tier list but this is where i put crawl on the tier list crawl is the boss theme from uh guilty gear strive uh i’m a big big fan of it um the the arcade mode boss theme i put it here uh like in the middle of a tier uh i love this song this song’s super duper cool it’s not really about any individual character people associate it with nagoryuki because he is the boss of arcade mode but i don’t think it has anything to do with nagoryuki i think if you if you think of this as a nagoryuki theme you’re incorrect um i don’t think it has anything to do with nagoryuk um i think it’s just a classic generic guilty gear song and i don’t mean generic poratively i mean it’s a song that just generically describes guilty gear it just goes out there and it’s it’s all of it’s it’s the whole vibe of guilty gear coming together and i love it funny enough something i’ve always thought about this song is that the song that it reminds me the most of and takes me back to if you if you’re a blaze blueue person it reminds me so much of a blaze blue song and it is black onslaught in blaze blue this song sounds to me like it could be a sequel to black onslaught which is unlimited ragna’s theme or the theme of uh ragna going sicko mode um ragna is my favorite character in fiction and i think a lot about about ragna um and man could this song be a ragna theme if ragna was in this game and they and let’s say dice was like “we’re going to put ragna in the game as a as a guest character but i don’t feel like doing a new ragna theme just give him this one it’s perfect it works it’s exactly what i want.” um so it get it gets a passive buff uh it gets it goes higher on the tier list for me because it’s a ragna theme i think it’s perfect i think there’s a lot of cool layers to this one i i like this portion of the song a whole lot trophy salts thanks for coming to observer i appreciate you thanks thank you for coming through i’m called 018 i’m a pigment of fractal spacetime i am obsessed with uh guilty gear blaze blueue and monster hunter those are my top three hyperfixations the things i think about the most um i run a weekly uh d and d show based on monster hunter uh we just did it last night um we’re on episode 99 next week um we’re we’re nearing kind of the end of it um if that interests you at all check that out it’s linked beneath the stream um in any case uh happy pride i’m here to talk about the guilty gear strive ost i have a i have a video up on youtube regarding uh my favorite stuff in the totality of the guilty gear uh soundtracks going all the way back to the very beginning um how long would it take you to explain the story of blaze blue funny you should say that i did it before uh i did a stream i was i was um coerced you could say it was a donation goal to just just explain the story of blaze blueue it took me i think about like 3 hours i think it took me about 3 hours um i do know the story of blaze blue do i know every single minute detail yes yes i do uh kind of i would probably get some stuff wrong if i talked about it but um my opinion is i don’t think blaze blue and guilty gear have stories that are as complicated as the memes and the general vibe would have you believe i don’t think they’re more complicated and or more difficult to explain than some of the more complicated like like typical battle anime stories um like i would compare them to something like naruto or um maybe one piece um it’s probably more complicated than dragon ball but um i probably use one of those stories um as a a point of comparison there are bots i am killing them goodbye bot um that those are my general feelings on it i think that when you when you consider the medium that they’re told in because they’re fighting games i think most people don’t come into a fighting game expecting a story on that level of complexity which again i don’t think is a is a very top level of complexity um when you’re not expecting it and you and you didn’t ask for it um it exacerbates a problem i would say that isn’t necessarily really a problem in my opinion but uh so i think it’s it’s developed into a bit of a meme i don’t think the story is actually that complicated i think there are a lot of like terms and things to remember that to make it make sense um but but when somebody says something to me like blaze story is very complicated haha time travel here’s the thing man uh i think basically like every substantial like battle anatabase story has like attempted to incorporate some measure of time travel into it i mean try to tell me that there’s no time travel in like jojo’s bizarre adventure or uh i’m pretty sure there’s some time travel in naruto at this point uh there’s a lot of time travel in dragon ball none of that [ __ ] makes any sense time travel is impossible to tell a story about that makes sense so sure yeah there’s time travel and it doesn’t make a lot of sense um blaze blueue is a story that is kind of inherently about time travel but um there isn’t that much time travel in it it h i’m not going to get too deep into it anyway uh we talked about crawl we’re going to move on from crawl um if you want to hear me talk more about the blaze blue story i can do that sometime i have a lot of thoughts of course uh next up i’m going to put armorclad faith holy do i love this song um pmpkin consistently has really good songs and i think there’s a great idea behind pmpkin’s themes and that is that they are they are of course heavy you know they hit you they sound like stomping that’s what i think you know you feel the pmpkin buster in here uh that you always do in every pmpkin theme but always it circles back to something uplifting something that sounds you know it it tells you that that there’s a heart inside the man that is pmpkin that the giant mountain of a man he has a heart um and i love hearing that in pmpkin i i love when it circles back to that and that’s that’s in here and also this one tells a little bit of a story you know um armor clad faith it’s you know it’s it incorporates elements of faith and um you know the mention of i don’t need to say it cuz the song’s about to say it man that’s so cool uh potmpkin is a man of faith i love to hear that i didn’t really know that about pmpkin i’m not even sure if that was an element of pmpkin before i don’t really know if it even is now but um i like it being there in the man i love it um and this [ __ ] is so cool [ __ ] this is cool i loved this from moment one when i heard it so i talked earlier about how there were some songs that we got early when strive got a beta there were four songs that were released early this is the fourth one and we could listen to this one early and this is the one that i listened to the most and i never got tired of it at all i rate this one so highly i love this song it’s it is the best pmpkin theme and um that’s a tight running pmpkin has really good themes um it it wins but man it’s it’s a tough battle because pmpkin songs are really good uh what pushes this song so far over the edge for me though is the way this song wraps up man the the final chorus of this song [Music] bro [Music] you’ve heard it before but holy is this good this is where like i said earlier guilty gear strive soundtrack has a lot of stuff on it that surprises me [Music] this like emotional investment that pops up in it here dude damn man what a wrap-up right and it doesn’t end on the all i do is embrace the wounded soul which is kind of like the hook of the song it forgoes using that at the end to end on that high note instead what an interesting and creative choice to wrap up the song so cool the the very first time i heard it i said “this is peak peak creativity so much thought and heart went into the to the composition of the song i love it it is it is sublime love it really good dice is really good at endings.” that’s true there’s a lot of i would say that um a lot in guilty gear stris a lot of really good ones in guilty stribe i think um a soundtrack that i think is is a soundtrack for good endings of songs is um blaze blueue central fiction a lot of the new songs as of blaze blueue central fictions they end on such powerful notes um i think i think if you if you go through and you listen to the new songs as of blaze blue central fiction and and keep that in mind like key your ear to the way that the songs end you’ll realize uh a lot of those songs most of the effort or or or a great deal of effort was put into how to wrap those songs up and it sounds incredible it’s amazing um so that’s where i’m going to rate that one uh next up i’m going to put a song that is should i call it a guilty pleasure i’m not sure if i feel guilty about it i don’t feel guilty about this but i got to say it’s a little bit of a guilty pleasure the hourglass bro this song this song kicks so much ass listen i love sin sin is my second favorite guilty gear character my number one favorite guilty gear character is justice but i love sin sin is so fun i love this character so much from his conception man in guilty gear 2 love this guy love sin he’s the most fun character in guilty gear the head empty hmbo dude he is he is so cool he is so cute love this guy um love everything from his gameplay design to uh his the storytelling surrounding sin this guy is so cool um and how do i feel about his music in general so sin’s music is always really feel good that’s the vibe of sin’s music all of his songs and i think he has three songs that are basically the same song one after another um they they don’t really change that much they’re all setting out to do the same thing and it they they all execute on the idea flawlessly it’s got that feelgood head empty energy they got to add vocals to this one to tell the story of sin’s head empty energy and it’s perfect every every word of it is exactly right for sin um and i think there is something that’s done in all of sin’s themes that is intentional and it is that there’s always two guitars battling for the lead in sin’s themes um if you listen to any one of sin’s themes you can hear that there’s a rhythm guitar and a melody guitar that are competing for the lead spot in the song um and i think that’s that’s intentional it’s it’s a duality it’s it’s a duel of guitars that um sort of evokes you know sin’s name being sin he’s this the son of kai who is like supposed to be quote unquote the most virtuous person basically in the story you know it’s the duality of sin and virtue uh sin went through a lot of hardship in his childhood um and i think that that’s that’s very intentional that’s supposed to be there uh now what is the best part of this song i’m saying this now because you’re about to hear it listen to this how can you hear this and not feel good man that takes you on a trip you you go on a trip for a minute when you hear that piano solo man holy i love that love the vibe so uh i love sin i rate i rate sin themes very highly and every every iteration of sin’s uh music goes very high on my on my list um that being said the next song i would place would be get over nightmares is the sin versse kai theme um i don’t think it’s on this playlist i have to pull it up separately um guilty gear strive unfortunately launched with no versus themes um i’m glad they made this one i’m glad this one came out uh sin and kai do have a versus theme before this one um it is called communication it’s from guilty gear 2 and it appeared in guilty gear xr um that song is a 10 out of 10 masterpiece um this one is not exactly a follow-up to that song this one’s really different from that one but that’s because sin and kai’s relationship has changed very dramatically since then um that song has a lot of heart and feeling and sadness in it there’s there’s a sadness and a longing for a relationship between father and son in that one and this one is more about sin kind of living up to kai uh kai’s legacy expanding down towards sin and the two of them kind of standing shoulder-to-shoulder as men you know and i love that i love both of these songs together in a in storytelling order super super cool love it so i love this song a lot um i was very impressed by the song when it came out um very glad that that it was made um i don’t have a lot more to say about it though but generally very positive about that song so i’m going to get into s tier now we’re going to talk about what is in s tier so uh the first song i’m going to put at the bottom of my s tier is bedman the circle uh god damn this song is awesome this is um contender for like the most creative song in guilty gear strive um uh i should say this now there is another tier um there’s another tier above this one um not everything left to talk about goes in s tier there is actually an s+ tier um to to help with the the spoilers uh so um man this song is so good it is one of the most creative songs in guilty gear strive it’s a contender for the most creative song in guilty gear stribe why is it creative because the singer in this song is dead is singing from the afterlife damn that is so cool and it’s a it’s a cool character to be singing from the afterlife because bedman is such a funny goofy like it’s one of the one of the most guilty gear characters ever right if you don’t know the lore of bedman bedman is a man who is so intelligent his iq is so high that he has to sleep at all times in order to prevent his brain from overheating because he thinks at such an incredible pace and with so much depth so quickly that is so funny that is such a cool idea right and uh the lyrics are kind of about that too it’s about that that guy that guy singing from beyond the grave possessing an inanimate object to protect his his little sister i love that um the the line in the hook of this one you know i love i love that line when i when i got the lyric sheet for this one consuming 10 billion years consuming 10 billion years in an instant it’s about how fast bedman thinks right it’s about how much information flows through bedman’s mind that quickly consuming 10 billion years in an instant that’s so cool what an awesome line love that um and yeah this song this song wraps up on such a great line too or a great note too you get this this alternative take on the lyrics um that are about his relationship with his sister um which is super cool let me circle back to something a little more selfish once again venerating the the intelligence of bman and this ending it’s kind of a longing it’s almost like bman collapsing collapsing beyond death right you know i’m here i’m here it’s like saying i’m here but it’s like it’s almost like he’s he’s out of energy you know he’s he’s he’s failed to pull himself outside the circle the circle of course being death um what a great what a great idea love the song love the ideas behind it um that’s that that one i rate really highly uh next also in my s tier is going to be like a weed naturally as a matter of course first of all man the title of the song is so cool i love dice getting creative with the titles of these songs writing something that is like so so strange how do you even what is with the title of this song it’s so long and so so descriptive but um and also so cryptic i love it though um i love the sound of this song it’s it’s a great reference to testament’s original theme um it’s it’s got such a great um grungy vibe to it i love the sound to it um testament is such a great character um i love what they did with testament and i love that they brought testament back and really really changed things up with testament cuz testament was a character that was defined by really not being a person you know being being a puppet being a pawn um and having kind of this tragedy to them um that they never really got to be a person and and i love that they gave testament so much individuality this time um such a great expression for the character i love that this song plays with pronouns that is so cool this song uh a throughine of the song is that the pronouns are interchangeable as to who the subject of the song is is the song about two people a uh you know aphab and amab you know um traditionally um you know male and female or are are the pronouns being used interchangeably to describe testament uh or whomever the song is about um i love that you know the the the um he him and and she her pronouns are just used interchangeably in this song almost at random and damn do i love that um and you know the way that that kind of like stood out to me is like trying to memorize the lyrics for the song required you to really play play a game and dance with pronouns and uh that was that was like actually kind of fun i i really enjoyed that so i love that that appears you know it’s the kind of thing where when you first hear it you’re like i’m not sure if this is intentional or something that matters to this song but as you start to realize you have to do that to memorize the lyrics of the song and then you think about the fact that it’s about testament it’s like man that has to be intentional it’s there on purpose it’s genius so i love it i love the vibe of this song too it’s almost like a show tune um i would describe it as like a show tune almost like you’d hear it in a stage play uh so i really love that it’s very performative um i dig that so i’m a big i’m a big fan of testing love it love it uh so next up next up i’m going to talk about man man dude this song is so good how do i even how do i even talk about this song so when i talked about anie’s theme i mentioned that before this game came out we got previews of the songs in the trailers for the characters and the and the preview that excited me the most was the one in anie’s trailer i was really excited for anie’s theme and when i finally got the song i was really disappointed i didn’t like it as much as i thought i would this song is the opposite where when i heard this song in the trailer for eno i was like i don’t know if i’m going to care about this and then when i heard this i ascended i i traveled to another plane this song is so good so creative um it made me so interested in eno i mean eno is a character that has so much interesting lore that never sucked me in before this and when i heard this i was like i need to know everything about this character i need to know everything about her um in the course of guilty gear strive story eno becomes literal capital gd god uh which is very very neat and interesting and this song is kind of about that it’s it’s like a song sung from the perspective of someone who you know is omnipotent but also curses their fate and is cursed by their fate you know they’re they’re um they’re like you know eno is a dead god i love it i love it what a what a great vibe what a what an interesting interesting thing to do with this with this character i love this song i love the lyrics to the song especially um hearing this song like immediately it’s like this song is awesome but then when you learn the lyrics and you actually dissect the lyrics of the song it gets better and uh i love that so it’s it’s one of the most creative tracks in guilt gear strive um i’m i’m a huge huge fan love it i can listen to this one endlessly uh next next you know what time it is it’s bikin’s turn man bikin i don’t actually like bikin that much to be honest with you i don’t actually really like biking that much um bikin is cool but doesn’t really appeal to me doesn’t doesn’t hit where where things hit for me you know doesn’t doesn’t hit me right in my heart doesn’t hit me where i live but bikin’s music holy there is so much love and effort put into bikin’s music this one um i rate this one so highly because there are so many layers and so many ideas in this song and like i said before one of the things that i love the most that dice does is incorporate some traditional eastern and japanese um sounds and motifs into his music he does this in a lot of his songs and this is one of the places that he does it the best um with biken and with this song the the chanting in this song is so cool damn it’s cool there it’s just like rule of cool everywhere in this song is it’s on full display it’s firing on all cylinders uh so i love this song i will say it’s not the best viking theme i have to be honest with you rokon in guilty gear xard is the best viking theme it’s it’s the second best maybe the second best song in guilty gear xard um i think rokamon is a better song than this but it says a lot that i still rate this one so highly despite it not being the best bikin um i i love really everything about this song uh even though i don’t care that much for bikin um it just it it transcends my feelings about the character that it’s about um my opinion is that like i don’t really understand what went on with bikin’s arc bikin was very much out for like vengeance and this song has a bit to do with like casting off the need for vengeance and moving on to a new life and that’s kind of what happened with bikin but i do feel like it’s a little bit of a disservice to not address bikin’s bikin’s thirst for vengeance or or lust for vengeance all throughout the series that has always been there i think um it’s it it wasn’t really a satisfying conclusion to her character arc um i know that you couldn’t really give her vengeance because who she wanted vengeance against was that man um more so chaos than asuka and you couldn’t really involve bikin in that conflict because her investment in it is so different and and departed from other characters who are more important so uh she couldn’t really be involved in that unfortunately i think that her character arc suffered for it um so in the end i’m not the biggest viking fan but i am a huge fan of bikin’s music um so next next next next next next uh i’m going to talk about a couple of songs that i haven’t rated yet that are not going higher than these so um the reason that i need to do a couple of things out of order is because i have people that i i know people i’m close with people that disagree with my takes on a couple of songs so i need to i need to i need to handle them right now now i need i need to address them so first we’re going to talk about abba now listen i like abba abba’s abba is a goofy character and when abba was announced for guilty gear strive i was so surprised and so enthusiastic about abba’s inclusion i love it um abba is a character that definitely deserves to continue to appear in guilty gear uh abba’s origins of course are from a spin-off title and abba made the leap over to guilty gear double xx from that spin-off title and you know she’s always been one of those characters that we question like how canon is abba is aba ever going to return does aba actually belong in guilty gear or is she a spin-off character that was like a guest in in a mainline title turns out aba is totally canon and belongs in guilty gear and i love i love that do i love this song unfortunately i don’t love this song um it’s not one of my favorite songs in guild stride is it creative yes it is it is quite creative uh i i do like the creativity in it however it is it is disappointing to me that it is not the sound of abba to my to me um now what do i mean by that so um here let’s grab um so if you’ve ever experienced ab before you would know that this is what abba sounds like uh this is keeping gates this is abba’s theme from uh guilt double x i’m going to let it play for like a little bit so abba’s theme so keeping gates is really uh it’s it’s grungy you know it’s dirty it’s dark and it describes the character quite well right this sounds like the character you’re looking at on the screen and i love how strange it is it’s ethereal it’s eldrich it it it carries you places you know it really makes you think about the creepiness of this character she’s weird she’s a weirdo and it’s cool i love how weird she is um what’s the problem with this song this song is not weird there’s nothing weird about this song it’s kind of just a song it’s like just a guilty gear song it just kind of works like it just it it’s technically good it it’s technically proficient it sounds good start to finish but it’s not weird it’s just kind of normal it’s like a normal song it’s like it’s like abba got normal pill but here’s the thing when you look at her in guilty gear strive she’s not normal pill she’s still weird she still looks like aba she’s still a weirdo and i love the weirdness but what happened to the music it’s not weird it’s not weird enough there’s a little weird in it but that’s my feelings on it man so unfortunately i don’t rate a theme very highly um previously i might have i might have put it in the ctier area um i think i think i’m willing to put it high in ctier i probably would put it here maybe that’s how i feel about as um unfortunately i i’m sorry if you love this song it’s a let down to me um that’s my overall feeling on it it’s not that i dislike the song by itself in a vacuum i like the song and i can listen to the song i can relisten to the song and enjoy it but it did not fulfill the abba themed fantasy for me it lost me there sorry i’m sorry if you love abba i have friends that really love abba’s theme they really love that song and anytime i talk about that song they want to kill me uh but i’m sorry those are my feelings um the next one i’m going to talk about is um we have to talk about this one right now come on so we have to talk about carpad dm the newest song in guilty gear strive so this is unic i did a whole video about this um if you if you check me out on youtube i put out a whole video on on the release day of unika talking about things that are in unica’s theme that are very interesting to me and uh the way that i think that this song follows up and capitalizes on a legacy of music uh within guilty gear over a a great period of time um unica is a super cool character i like unka um funny enough i have not seen guilty gear dual rulers i will watch it at some point but i haven’t yet but i’ll get to it um i’ve heard mixed things about it but i’ll probably like it because i just you know i just like this song um it’ll probably appeal to me in a lot of ways that um i’m looking for in something like that um this song is another one that surprised the hell out of me and i didn’t i i had no frame of reference i didn’t know what to expect out of this song um this has so much blaze blueue dna in it in a way that i like um there’s a lot of uh in there’s instrumentals that appear in this song that are are surprising and interesting to to pull apart and listen to and there are melodies in the song that are interesting too and something that i really love is that the bridge and the chorus of this song are some of the most classic like 70s and 80s heavy metal [ __ ] that i have ever heard you could hear that appearing in any song by like judas priest ever like it’s it sounds super cool which is so great as the character that you know she’s kai’s daughter uh and kai is a character that is like traditionally characterized by how strongly he references music from that era um i really like that um i think that una’s voice uh is established here uh i kind of wish that unika had a chance to get a theme that didn’t need to heavily reference kai and dizzy so much um i understand why it’s there but i think that um i think that every character deserves an opportunity to express themselves by themselves and unfortunately in unika’s first appearance she has to reference other characters um i think that’s a little unfortunate for unika um but it’s okay i think it’s i think it’s the weakest part of the song is when it references kai and dizzy um it’s okay that it’s there but i i would have probably liked the song better if it just wasn’t um but like you know this you know you can hear the uh like string instruments um like orchestral string instruments that that sneak into this song all throughout it and damn is it cool damn is it cool um and of course there is a reference to justice in this song um that’s what my video is about by the way because i love justice i love the music surrounding justice uh and unka is justice’s granddaughter and this song makes an effort to remind you that unica is justice’s granddaughter so where do i place unica’s theme on the tier list it’s been a few weeks i’ve had an opportunity to really contemplate and think about this song and how much i like this song um i didn’t place it on the tier list before but i finally do know where i placed it on the tier list i put it at the top of s tier i love this song this is my favorite s tier song in uh guilt strike uh incredible incredible job dais i love unica thank you for endearing a new character to me uh i love unka um i’ve been playing una in guilty gear strive and having a great time so we’re going to talk about s+ tier so these are songs that i feel step beyond s tier these are songs that are um above it and you know it’s a little it’s a little obvious now you know who that is but um every song that i’m going to talk about here these are my favorite songs in guilty gear drive and these are songs that i feel are immortal they are the the cream of the crop the best stuff that is in guilty gear strike uh so the first one is extras uh [ __ ] i love this song this song is so sick um do you know i wonder if you i wonder if you guys know this because someone had to tell me this uh because i i made a comment where they were like “actually star you’re wrong about that.” there’s only one singer in this song do you guys know that are you aware of that i did not realize that for probably the first couple of weeks that this song was out i thought that there were two two singers in this song and i actually thought that the that the growling was naoki and it’s not no um her name is molly daisy she has she has some other tracks you can find on youtube um i recommend looking her up um she has some other really good stuff uh yeah her range is incredible holy and yes uh the lyrics of this song perfectly describe elf felt and the fact that it is one singer with this range is exactly what lfeld’s about she’s become a metal singer in the in universe in guilty gear she does this literally she’s the singer of this song this song is a banger start to finish holy crap i love it um i love the goofiness in the lyrics it perfectly describes alfelt um it’s very interesting to me that like the concept of like marriage and love doesn’t appear in this song basically at all i think that’s a slightly missed opportunity but also i like that the song can stand on its own two feet without literally being about ll2 so uh that’s cool i’m into that so i rate the song very very highly i love this song i love the reference to marionette in here um there’s a great reference to justice in here as well by the way um watch my video about that uh but yes uh so i rate that one there so next who are we talking about next it is the boy you know him you’ll love him venom venom venom uh wow i had no expectations for venom’s theme at all i’ve never liked a venom theme before i i know all of venom’s themes and i’ve really never been interested in them every time i’ve listened to a new venom theme i’ve been like “whatever whatever.” and then this one blew my mind i dude and this was one of the ones where the first time i listened to it i was like i’m not too sure about it i’m not too sure if i like it but it stuck in my ear it would not leave my head i kept thinking about it and thinking about it and thinking about it and then i would listen to it again and over time dude i just decided wow do i love this song this song is so good uh i love the sound of this one the bridge of this one is so good and the the messaging in this song is really good it’s a little on the nose sometimes which could possibly you know i wouldn’t mind a little more poetry in it you know like this line i’m a phantom now living a new kind of life come on that’s on the nose that’s literally describing venom that’s you could have been a little more creative than that but anyway we’ll toss that out i don’t care about that uh ah this song is so cool it’s got such a great vibe all the way through yeah it gets better with every listen i agree that’s true it so does it’s so so so so good um my favorite line in this song is uh here accept [Music] i should accept the fact that i’m tragic lonely and special at the same time wow what a cool line what a what a banger of a line um i don’t care about venom enough to really dive too deep into what that means i don’t care what it means it’s so cool what a what a what a heartfelt thing to say i’m tragic lonely and special at the same time yeah venom you are and i don’t really care why what an awesome song i love this song uh it it definitely it made it into my my top tier here for sure for sure so next next we’re talking about the gravity so this one i’ve said it a million times dice likes to play with genres and do interesting things and mix you up a little bit with the music that he creates this one does it wow big mixup this one’s a strange one isn’t it like it kind of it kind of flies it flies around it it orbits man it orbits the the solar system in a way that makes you think like you know it really tells you what a mystical mystical magical character this is we’re dealing with someone who is elevated now again there’s some stuff in this song that is a little on the nose that i tend to think is a little disappointing you know the the line “does existence have a meaning the reality of truth?” bro come on that’s a little on the nose a little on the nose for who oscar is i get it bro he’s a philosopher who questions existence i get it you don’t have to literally say it come on give me give me something a little more a little more contemplative than that you know don’t you don’t have to literally say it to me but anyway um it still works it still works um my favorite element of the song so i really love oscar’s theme in guilty gear 2 um when you fight him in that game he’s got his own theme it’s the first time that man had a theme it’s really cool i’d recommend giving it a listen guilty gear 2 has the best soundtrack in all of guilty gear by the way um my favorite element of this song is um they there’s that hook at the beginning that says “all things as they are.” it’s chanted there at the beginning right and the way that it sneaks back into this song uh it it makes it back into the song at the end you know it has it has this hugely emotional uh payoff here at the end where all the elements of the song that it had been using to build up it pays off here toward the end right sounds great and oscar like he has aspirations of being a like a radio dj doing like talk radio and this sounds so radio to me [Music] let me get this reinccorporation wow wow it’s it’s it’s it is a philosophical experience to to call that line back into the song right i love it it’s and that says so much about the character what a creative and interesting song uh definitely definitely it has plus tier song for me uh we got another one here so next up oscar’s counterpart epic chaos man the first time i heard this song this song is called drift the first time i heard this song i knew immediately this is one of the best pieces of music i’ve ever heard it it took me one second to realize that i only i had to listen to like like a quarter of the song to know this is an experience wow so good it it bounces around with different like tones and kind of genres a little bit and and pacing um and in that way there’s chaos in it and of course happy chaos that’s his name and he is an agent of chaos sort of um so interesting um now i’m not sure if they’ve ever actually released the official lyrics to this song or if people are still speculating because in my opinion the the commonly accepted lyric sheet for this song is wrong that’s my opinion um i think that the lyrics that everybody thinks the words that are being said in the song everybody thinks is true i don’t think it’s true um i have a different uh a different take on what is being said in this song in a few places um i could be wrong i’m not sure if if naoki or dice have actually put it out i don’t think they have though this song is super good i could listen to this song all day every day for the rest of my life and i’d be eating if you stranded me on a deserted island and said you can only take two songs with you this is one of them um yeah it like it it it travels to places you know it goes it goes places like where is it now it’s it’s off on another planet and then and then it transitions to whoa whoa that’s cool i think the first time i heard that like that synth tone come in there i was like “oh wow wow what an idea holy that’s cool i love the lyrics in this song.” um so uh yeah yeah this one’s this one’s great um this is an example i think of dice gate firing on all cylinders it’s it’s a perfect uh example of the creativity that comes out of that man’s head um and of course the people that he works with too um it’s it’s exactly what i want to hear and ever since that song um i knew like what i was hoping for out of guilty gear soundtrack every time a new song comes out i know what i want to hear and it’s something like that uh now we’re going to talk about my favorite song in all of guilty gear strive number one who’s missing from the tier list guys uh spoiler alert you’ve already seen it who’s missing here from the tier list uh that’s right it’s my favorite song in all of guilty gear strive been my favorite song in all of guilty gear strive for as long as guilty gear strive has existed and it’s almost not even close i’m almost willing to make a double s tier to put this song in it is the best song in guilty gear strive uh and it is the second best song that dice has ever produced and yes it is verm lethal’s theme uh necessary discrepancy this is the most creative and interesting song in guilty gear holy crap uh now i have a lot of thoughts about this song and i have i have talked so extensively on this but um so i love justice i keep saying it justice is my favorite character in guilty gear i made a whole video about it okay this song is full of references to justice which is really cool and it’s what i wanted to hear first time i booted up this song i i had my ears my antenna tuned where is justice in this song i’m surely going to hear it in this song and i did it’s in here so um this song has a lot of references to um interesting songs in the past i recommend you look up the song [ __ ] crystal by emerson lake and palmer uh that song is a huge inspiration for this one you’ll hear this song in that one this song goes through phases just like uh chaos does uh and those phases incorporate those references to other places uh there’s two voices in this song although one of them vanishes after the start of the song which is it makes sense the song is well descriptive of ren lal she’s uh you know somebody that has gone through a lot of emotion from being you know like an inhuman puppet or doll to being you know accepting of their humanity and and so forth um so i like the messaging in the song song is just a banger start to finish just a good ass song just on its face um i think that it’s one that um doesn’t get a second look from a lot of people because it doesn’t it’s not the most conducive to playing a fighting game too i get that i hear that a lot people don’t like picking this song when they’re playing guilty gear strive because the startup to it is kind of slow and they kind of just want the music to like hit them in the face as soon as they start playing i get that i disagree but i get it uh but the the layers that are expressed in this song are uh so so interesting so much uh so much to think about and and dissect um now i won’t fully go into and explain the references to justice here because again i recommend you watch my video talking about it um i really i really go into depth about how this song references justice and where it comes from um now it’s funny that you should say that because when i started talking about this song the first thing i said is that this is the second best song that get that duke has ever created this is my second favorite uh track by dice because my favorite track by duke is div.a from guilty gear 2 um so yes it’s funny that you say that because i think that is the best track that dice has ever produced um div.a is a sequel to meet again justice’s theme it is it is a follow-up to meet again and and then uh you could say that all of the songs that come after div.a that are also related to justice are like spin-offs except kind of uh d.v.a of despair and this song necessary discrepancy are like also sequels to div.a so ram lethal kind of got the the most of justice’s dna carried forward in uh into the future i don’t like diva of despair that much surprisingly i would rate that song pretty low on the xr tier list i don’t care for it that much i don’t think it was the best sequel to div.a mostly because it had a lot to live up to it had big shoes to fill following up d.va and unfortunately it didn’t do it for me but uh this song does uh it’s everything that i wanted so uh that’s that’s number one for me i love necessary discrepancy it’s my favorite song in guilty gear strive um overall my feelings about the appeal of the soundtrack in guilty gear strive are that there’s a ton of creativity expressed in it um my favorite songs in guilty gear drive tend to be the ones that i feel the most from that i i sense things about the artist’s intent and what was in their minds when they were working on it and uh what what story they’re trying to tell what what expression they’re trying to have and think strive really succeeds i think like a lot of the songs from like a tier onward have so so so much of that everything i rate below that i would say are like a little lacking in those areas for me sometimes um and vice has always done that throughout his history of producing music there’s you know there’s countless countless examples of dyski executing on this concept successfully uh once in a while it just doesn’t quite hit the right way but um but that’s okay because sometimes you you just want to you just want something to hit you know like kind of like the reason i like this song uh so how do i rate uh strive soundtrack overall i consider it to be the third best guilty gear soundtrack um i think guilty gear 2 has the best uh it’s the best soundtrack that has guilty gear in the name in my opinion it’s also the best uh it is the best soundtrack in gaming to anything ever really um number two for me would be uh guilty or double x collectively like all the versions of double x uh there’s there’s so much in there that i like uh it’s a it’s an incredible collective of songs it’s got a lot of low lows in it but uh the high highs are really really good number three for me would be guilty gear drive uh i i really really love the music in guilty gear drive it doesn’t quite live up to like some of the stuff that i love the most about double x it it feels to be as iconic uh at its highest points i would say um quite as iconic uh where you know guilt to hear double x’s music is eternal it will be eternal will forever be a a pinnacle in in history uh and then i would say beneath that is where i would rate guiltier exard uh generally speaking i think guilty gear xard is uh probably the least memorable of uh the guilty gear soundtracks i think that dice gate was maybe going through like a bit of a phase uh when it comes to the music in uh guilty gear xr i think i think um i i refer to it as the rhythm guitar phase because i think that what defines the soundtrack in uh xr the most is that the rhythm guitar goes crazy in like all the songs like basically all the songs are like dueling guitars where like the rhythm and the melody are like always competing for the top spot in the song and i really like that and i like listening for it and being interested in it um unfortunately uh if i were to rate like if i like let’s say you know i were to put all of the xr themes on this tier list along the strive ones so so many of them would fall below this line like probably more than half of them and then probably only a very small like pinch worth would go above this line um and that’s uh that’s that’s problematic um so unfortunately that’s how i feel about exart’s theme or exart’s uh soundtrack um speaking in terms of blaze blueue um i’ll mention a little bit about blaze blueue let me throw back on like uh you know what we should listen to let’s listen to me again yeah um in terms of blaze blueue um it’s tough to say because blaze blue’s music is designed so differently from guilty gear’s music fundamentally from a design perspective it’s just handled so differently and i think it’s really good i would say that the lowest lows in blaze blueue soundtrack are so abysmally low so deep in the garbage can um there are actually many songs in maybe not many but there are a handful of songs in blaze blueue that i would actively say i do not like i don’t want to listen to them never pick them on net play with me you will upset me that make me uh afraid to use the random option when i when i load into a match of blaze blueue to hit random on the soundtrack selection um however there are a lot of tracks in blaze blueue that are so so good um that you know they could they could rise to the the same level as the highest highs in guilty gear um i would say that there’s not enough to say dissecting their uh their worth i think again they were designed so differently from guilty gear’s soundtrack that um the the level of depth in them can be a little difficult to perceive it’s hard to find out exactly what the artist’s intention was and some of that might come from the disconnect where you know dice wrote the music but mory wrote the characters and i think that dice designed most of the characters in guilty gear um so a lot of it is conceptually you know connected it’s it’s joined in a way that um you know it comes from a you know a man a single man’s notebook um and blaze blueue can be missing that sometimes sometimes not always uh so generally i would i rate blaze blue’s music a little lower than i would guilty gear’s music um although like i keep saying um at my heart at my core in my truest sense as deep as i go i am a blaze blueue person i’m a blaze blueue player i love blaze blueue i like i love it more than guilty gear um i don’t feel like the strongest about that opinion i guess because i love them both so much but uh uh you know i’m a i’m a blaze blue lorehead and uh what i want like more than anything is for blaze blue to come back in some way shape or form um fun fact about me i had the most complete and most uh expensive account outside of japan in blaze blueue alternative dark war the gotacha game that lived for a little less than a year uh i streamed a lot of that game i actually have like a video on youtube uh it’s like a time capsule it’s uh of like when the game was kind of new i did a i did a breakdown of like the game mechanics and uh you know made a case for why you should play it um it’s again yeah it’s like a time capsule unfortunately it was ill- fated the game did not live very long i think there’s a number of reasons for that um and since then blaze blueue has not had any activity at all and that’s pretty sad i want blaze blue to come back um and that being said you should play blaze blueue you should definitely play blaze blueue and more than anything you should play the story mode in blaze blueue you should boot up you should get blaze blueue calamity trigger right now pop pop on blaze blueue calamity trigger hit the hit story mode and just lose yourself in it just just play it just consume it it’s really good blaze blue stories is good um i would say that there’s some issues with how it ends but uh overall i love it it’s it’s the most me thing ever you know everybody who gets to know me they realize over time “yeah blaze’s perfect for you.” and everything they find out that i like they’re like “yeah that makes sense that makes sense you being the blazable guy that makes sense.” so here is the uh guilty gear strike tier list we did it um once again i’m really grateful to uh pride fcc for reaching out to me and asking me to do this um this is because of the uh the
