Based on Murasaki Shikibu’s timeless classic, written over a millennium ago, the story follows Genji, the charismatic son of the emperor, whose reputation for beauty and charm is unmatched in Kyoto’s noble circles. Yet, Genji harbors a forbidden desire for his father’s young and enchanting bride, a pursuit that sets in motion a series of tragic events. Haunted by the consequences of his obsession, Genji drifts through a series of love affairs, searching endlessly for fulfillment and meaning in a life that remains elusive.
