“Vow To Follow | Wind Breaker 1 Episode 6”
Episode 6 of Wind Breaker concludes Suo’s fight and transitions into Hiragi’s battle against Shishitoren’s Sako, one of Shishitoren’s top five fighters. Sako harbors a deep-seated grudge against Hiragi, which is evident as Sako initially dominates the fight, landing a heavy blow that sends Hiragi to the ground.
Sakura becomes agitated upon hearing Sako badmouthing Furin and Hiragi. Umemiya calms him, explaining that Hiragi is one of the four kings of Bofurin, leading the Tamonten team, named after Bishamonten, the god of war who controls the battlefield. This is when Hiragi, seemingly resurrected, turns the tide of the fight.
A flashback reveals that Hiragi and Sako first met when Sako was bullied for being smart, and Hiragi came to his rescue. Sako, inspired by Hiragi, learned to fight from him and aspired to follow in his footsteps at Furin High, hoping to support Hiragi in becoming Furin’s strongest. However, Hiragi encouraged Sako to forge his own path as he had committed to supporting Umemiya. Feeling betrayed, Sako sought strength by picking fights until he was recruited by Shishitoren’s Choji and Togame.
Returning to the present, Hiragi decisively wins the fight. In a voiceover, Sako reminisces about his admiration for Hiragi. After knocking Sako out, Hiragi respectfully places him aside, preventing Togame from disrespecting him. When Hiragi returns to Umemiya, he questions why Umemiya didn’t ask about his history with Sako. Umemiya replies that he will wait until Hiragi is ready to share.
The Episode Review
The episode, titled “A Vow to Follow,” explores Sako’s grudge against Hiragi and emphasizes loyalty and belonging within Bofurin. While Bofurin’s loyalty is rooted in friendship and camaraderie, Shishitoren’s loyalty is driven by power and fear, highlighting the contrasting values between the two factions.
